Based on "Beantown Toys Beanbots," the Phaseon Gendrone Unpainted Black shows that there's still a place for old-school, lanky robots from another world. Glyos figures are a weird mix of "collectible" and "customizable," with these unpainted figures being meant to be taken apart and tweaked to your creative preferences. Being fairly uncreative, I left mine as-is and bought it as part of the requirement that I buy black figure repaints.

Onell Design Glyos Phaseon Gendrone Unpainted Black Action FigureMade of the same PVC and plugs as other Glyos figures, the basic figure form is made of about 12 pieces with 3 bonus parts for customizing. As is, though, it's still pretty fun-- he can stand, sit, and you can pop off his limbs to "damage" or "upgrade" him. You can reconfigure his hand into a cannon, and the "gun" piece looks something like a hat too. So you've got options. The default unpainted head looks like an inverted bowl, so it's not exactly brimming in plastic personality the same way as Pheyden, Sarvos, or a Buildman.

Onell Design Glyos Phaseon Gendrone Unpainted Black Action FigureAt about 3 inches tall, he has big reversible fists (two thumbs) plus suction cup-like feet. They're not suction cups, they just kind of look that way. The arms are ribbed and seem fairly retro, similar to Bender or other old-tyme robots. (Pronounced "rowbits.") The head is jointed but as there's not much detail, you won't move it much unless you want to pop it off to give him another head.

This is one of those figures where the most compelling case I can make for it is "it's fun." Glyos are, as I always say, the kind of thing you should drop $20 or $30 on so you have a bunch of parts to mess around with and reorganize. Since the figure stands nicely, is small, and is really sized perfectly for your desk, you should get one of them (although not necessarily this color as it's out of production) to play around with. Some figures are difficult to get to stand just right, but the Phaseon is pretty agreeable and as such, demands to be picked up and adjusted all the time. If you can get a Phaseon for under $9, you should. Any color will be fine, but I have to say some of the later painted releases were pretty dang slick.
