Hasbro Transformers Generations Combiner Wars Skywarp Action FigureI feel bad dumping on Skywarp. On one hand, it's a decent little toy. It's the fourth time this mold has been released in the USA, after Starscream became Acid Storm became Thundercracker. Skywarp's deco is very similar to Thundercracker, but the Decepticon sigils are oddly a little different on each version of the jet for some reason. My sample has no quality control issues, nor does it feel like a bad representation of the character. It's just that inevitability has a funny way of becoming dull, even when what you're getting is pretty good.

Hasbro's current policy on "teams" seems to be completion - so if you see one Seeker jet, you'll see two more. (See also: Leader-class jets, Legends Insecticons in the making.) I appreciate Hasbro making the most out of the molds, as we've been through this before a few times with the 2006 "Classics" Starscream, the 2013 "Fall of Cybertron" Starscream, and many others. This is normal now.

The 3 3/4-inch robot is exactly what you expect out of a repaint of this mold. He has 10 meaningful points of articulation in his arms and legs, and that's about it. The figure stands easily and won't fall over if you sneeze, with 3mm pegs in his cannons to mount them in his arms. The cannons also have 5mm pegs for his fists - so you've got options. The detail is good and the paint apps are rather clean, but there's a tiny bit of silver bleeding around in his helmet. You can see it if you squint, so don't. I can't say there's anything here that's remarkable - but there's noting bad, either.

Transformation is a snap - wings fold down, feet fold down, arms go up, and the nose cone rotates up. It's pretty simple, and if it isn't, that's what the instructions are for.

The plane mode is convincingly jet-ish, with the usual undercarriage of robot bits. The guns can be moved around a bit, and there's retractable landing gear under the cockpit. The toy itself doesn't do much, but if you have any spare weapons there's a 5mm hole on the top of the plane for whatever weapons you may have handy. The symbols are nice and sharp, complete with a shiny silver border.

I realize this was not insightful, but it is reflective of the figure. If you've seen the previous releases, this is a lot like them - it completes the trio, so now we can sit back while people ask for the Sunstorm redeco that may never happen. They're nice figures, scaled to go with your Metroplex, but they're hardly essential given the characters' availability in numerous sizes, large and small. Skywarp even had a $6 mini release at "Dollar" stores like Dollar General and Family Dollar for $6-$7. If you want a bigger Skywarp, a Leader-class one is coming in 2016. You've got options - but this one is out, right now, for ten bucks. And it ain't bad.
