Yup, another one! The sixth Xodiac comes out at a much lower run at a much higher price, and hasn't quite sold out in a fast manner. And then, they announced they're doing more redecoes of this guy, so I'm not entirely sure how enthusiasm for the line can fly with higher prices and the same molds-- but I'm supporting the line for now, and this one (at a regular price) would've been really cool. Series creator Mel Birnkrant described this bearded redeco as Xodiac's dad, so I guess we have a new character here-- and of course, that's a good thing.
There is no new construction here, and "Goldiac" is cast in gold plastic, and then painted gold. It looks spectacular, but well, it should considering what he costs. The suit is a swell metallic gold, while the accessories are vac-metal gold. The head is the traditional orangey red, with a gold beard painted on which looks sort of funky as I have a hard time telling what his mouth looks like as it is.
The various different paint jobs of the Xodiac figures so far all look pretty good-- the gold figure doesn't look like the blue figure, which doesn't look like the grey figure. As the figures lend themselves to customizing, I should point out that the gold Xodiac looks awesome with the clear colorless gear from the Glyaxian Xodiac. Seriously, it's gorgeous. If only it didn't cost you north of $200 to assemble on the secondary market!
Since we've reviewed the mold a few times, well, you know what to expect-- the packaging is autographed, and the figure is distinctive. The gold gear is very similar to the Galactic Holiday 2010 stuff, and in addition to the gold on his suit there's a little bit of blue. If you really love gold, this is a fantastic release. After Inferno, this figure stands out nicely in this set and if the price is right-- by whatever criteria you deem "right"-- you're in for a treat when you pick it up.
