One of the many G1 characters left un-remade, Hoist got a really slick mini-figure release late in 2012. By building off the existing 2011 Reveal the ShieldTrailcutter (a good and obvious choice), Hasbro gave us the green guy with a retooled gun rack, revised hands, and... that's about it, really.
Since the original mold was somewhat tough to find, it's no surprise that some people (like myself) are pretty excited about this one making the rounds. Sure, it's not cheap, but at least they tossed in some Cyberverse-style holes and a gun so you can do more with the figure than just transform it and collect it. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
As a truck it's not bad. The wheels roll, it fits together well, and it looks like it should. I almost feel I'm letting you down by just saying "it's good. Let's move on." But... it is, so we will.
The stocky robot is pretty much the same as Trailcutter with tweaked hands and a hole in the back of his head. The enhanced deco brings a little more detail out, as the green highlights it successes and flaws quite well. For example, there's a lot of sculpted detail on the feet. There are also unpainted windows. The bright red Autobot symbol is always welcome, and it stands out better than the black stickers from the RTS sub-line.
There's not a lot of articulation here, but he's a nice robot with a silver face and a classic aesthetic I think fans of these smaller toys will enjoy. I've been grabbing all the "classic" Legends I can get over the last few years, and this is another great addition.
If you have the means (or desire), get it, you won't be sorry. The decision to include small guns really makes a ton of difference here, the figures seem like you get more for your money and anything you can do to add some character to the toy is a big plus. Get one! Or two. Either way.
