The Crayboth Cultivator is one of a ton of new and seemingly exclusive to Crayboth figure colors put out by Onell Design last year. Normally we'd get one or two per wave, but we ended up with batches of the things with a surprisingly large amount of the little crab aliens.
This one came out of a sizable batch last summer, bringing some of the brightest colors yet to life with nifty new paint masks. This one features the second paint mask - the first to drop the panel lines - and gives blue shoulders and thighs with blue highlights on a hot pink/magenta figure. It's right at home in 1987, I quite like it. He's still 1 1/2-inches tall with 4 moving parts, all of which pop off at the joint should you want to swap them with another figure. It's nice to have options.
If you like the color, I'd say track it down. These tend to sell out in a few hours usually, so it's eBay or forums for you at this point. The names of this wave given tantalizing hints to a storyline we'll never know, because this "Cultivator" comes with a "Mariner" and a "Harvester" along with the usual names which hold no obvious functional significance. How are they harvested? Who cultivates them and why? The world may never know - just like I don't know why I keep buying every recolor of it. They're cute, they're fun, and they always come out perfect. How they manage the track record I'll never know, but I will say that if they redesigned an arm or a head I'd be pretty happy to see some new forms to mix with the Crayboth body now that we're pushing 50 flavors.
