The long-term value of being a collector of this line is demonstrated well by Lizard Man. If you've been buying all the Skeletor figures, you may be delighted that Lizard Man includes no accessories for himself but rather sports Skeletor's sword from the cartoon as well as a specially molded glow-in-the-dark Diamond Ray of Disappearance from the episode of the same name. There's no Filmation Skeletor head yet but with the upcoming 200X head pack, odds are we'll see it eventually. Also now that we're in 2015, it's worth noting the price increases - the figure is $28 and Matty shipping is about $11. So if you see it for $40 shipped on Amazon or eBay, it's basically a wash. It's a neat figure too, if a little tall.
Figures like this make the line worth pursuing. It's just such a treat - the buck is a mix of mostly new parts and I think Modulok bits, but you wouldn't know it to look at it. The thinner limbs work well with the unique hands and feet. You'll notice clear green webbing between the fingers, and in a light room it really sings. This kind of detail threw me for a loop because I didn't see it coming - clear bits are pretty scarce on these figures. The head sculpt is big and colorful, with the figure looking a lot like he did in the original cartoon episode.
I like the clean, simple look and how it's a brighter and less overly beefy figure. There is no ab crunch - or abs, really - with the figure's look being dominated by his blue costume and long green hands. The tail connects to his loincloth/belt piece and is not in any way jointed. (Can't win 'em all.) As figures go I find it hard to really say anything else because it's pretty much perfect. If you look at it, you'll like it - little blue dots on the belt and yellow stitches on his hood add a lot to the figure's look, and thankfully show that there wasn't much cost-cutting on Lizard Man.
The accessories had some cost-cutting. The Skeletor sword is an awesome sculpt with a bony grip and a design which resembles ol' boneface's armor, but has absolutely no paint. That's good and bad - it's good because the word "CHINA" is now sculpted on the blade rather than being awkwardly painted on it. It fades into the plastic a little more. Also included is a custom-grip Diamond Ray of Disappearance, which comes complete with a glow-in-the-dark gem in the middle. There's also a disclaimer, which I'm not used to seeing on glowing toys. The jewel box is not articulated, but the bottom of it was sculpted to specifically fit Skeletor's hand. It's great!
Since this was a character from the first episodes of the cartoon, it only makes sense that he might include some accessories from it. Seeing that this figure adds to the diversity of your toy shelf while decking out Skeletor, I assume he'll be desired by fans of the bad guys in the future. While $40 is a lot to swallow for an action figure, the little bonuses make it a bit easier to accept. After all, you'd probably pay $5-$10 for the diamond, or a sword. Keep an eye out for this one if you didn't already buy it, because I'd probably have dropped $15-$20 just to get the weapons.
