The largely blink-and-you-missed-it Loo-Kee & Kowl set is, arguably, of interest. You get one, 100%-newly designed figure along with one figure previously sold (in different colors) as part of a weapons pak. Aside from a display stand, the two figures - priced lower than a normal full-size figure - are all by their lonesome.
Loo-Kee is the new one. Etheria's brightly-dressed voyeur hid in each episode of She-Ra and also showed up in some of the magazine advertising, which as an avid reader of various kid magazines at newsstands in grocery stores I saw a bunch. The figure is based on the rodent-like blue-haired character, who dresses like the winner of a coloring contest awarded mostly based on their ability to keep within the lines. The wide-eyed Filmation-derived creature has pointy shoes and 4 points of articulation. Kid as I may, the paint job is really sharp and there's not a lot of smudging or bleeding - it looks a lot like those 1980s Applause figures, if those were actually fairly well-made. The paint isn't too glossy or too sticky, the color choices are all correct, and with the assistance of his articulated tail he has no difficulty standing. As sidekick figures go, this is about as good as they'll probably ever get - articulated hips would be overkill here.
His companion is Kowl, the Koala/Owl thing. The previous one was cream-colored, similar to the original toy. This one is more of a peachy brown, closer to the animation model. The multi-colored ears are still quite pastel, and the eyes almost seem like they're looking in two directions - so look at him from the side, he's better that way. There's an articulated neck to go with the arms, but the head has limited movement thanks to his giant ears. The tiny hands can't hold anything, but at least the sculpting is solid. There are minor hints of fur, without the overkill we see on "realistic" figures. The toon/toy styling works fantastic here, similarly Loo-Kee's hair is pretty flat and plastic.
Also included is a big display stand that's sized for either figure's foot pegs. It's a little lop-sided and wobbly on my desk, but it doesn't actually topple over when I have Loo-Kee "float" on the accessory. Due to how he stands, he seems more like he's levitating or standing on an invisible shelf but the important thing is that he looks decent enough when behind other figures.
As chase figures go, this is arguably the best because it has an exclusive, all-new sculpted character. While my gut instinct is to be livid, it's a good choice - why not pick the hidden character whose appearance in the show (and indeed the franchise) is largely inconsequential? It's a nice-to-have, a fun, colorful addition to your stash that you may - or may not - miss. As the line winds down it's great to see some of the more memorable minor characters in plastic again, and with the Kowl recolor that's another one checked off the list. Who's next?
