While He-Man and Skeletor get the lion's share of the attention, the main character of She-Ra is pretty popular - and that's one good reason why she got a "Galactic Protector" costume. By including her in another area of the franchise, they made the Space Mutants just a little more relevant plus gave fans of two separate pieces of the adventure a reason to get excited. You've got an all-new She-Ra, and an all-new Galactic Protector. That doesn't happen very often. It's also a very nice figure.
Bits and pieces of the figure look familiar, sure, but you've got a new set of armor plus new accessories. My sample was underpainted in a few spots as the silver goes, but the designs and sculpts are excellent. Little blue and red gems are painted, while the accessories are largely clear green plastic. The sword looks like a cross between the New Adventures He-Man Sword and a Lightsaber, while the shield is a big eagle-looking thing. I was surprised by the two-tone cape with white exterior and blue lining, it looks really awesome. There's a lot of paint here, and you can tell that they did their best to squeeze in as much detail as humanly possible within the budget. Sure there could be a tiny bit more, but as it is it's still quite excellent.
Articulation is more or less typical for this line with a grand total of 18 joints - if not more that just aren't being counted for some reason - and she seems to have little problem staying standing. There's even a separately sculpted holster for a gun, just in case she decides she needs to shoot somebody. It's a great nod to the Adora figure you no doubt have wisely already purchased.
As a new version of a character that never appeared as a vintage toy or a cartoon character, you might argue this is a non-essential release. All I have to say is this: it's space She-Ra. I have no reason to not recommend Space She-Ra to you. The figure is nicely designed and is arguably more interesting than many of the other obscure guys we got in this line, and she'll go well with Space He-Man and Space Skeletor. I can't name a single compelling reason to skip this one, especially if you aren't knee-deep in this line already. Surely you've got a friend, a girlfriend, or a boyfriend that could use She-Ra at work - so why not this one? It's fantastic!
