One of the most important characters in the Masters of the Universe mythos, the Sorceress is was also one of the original line's last action figures. She didn't do much, and she looked like a child. This one also looks like a child, but has a lot more articulation and articulated wings. She looks a lot like the original toy to the extent I can pick it up and go "I have no reason to go buy a vintage one, this is great."
Nobody is going to mistake this one for an original. The 2022 version has shorter feathers on her hat, ending at her neck rather than lower down her back. She has significantly more articulation rather than the roughly 5 joints in the 1980s The wings are sculpted and positioned differently. The staff is a different sculpt - the original had a pointier beak and different sculpting. Having said that, I've often wondered in this era of retro remakes from Hasbro (like G.I. Joe and Star Wars: The Retro Collection) if a fan might just grab one of these new figures, putting the 2022 staff with an old incomplete 1980s figure, and saying "that'll do." It's not the same thing, but it's similar enough to satisfy a collector on a budget.
She has painted feathers on her stomach which are actually embossed, and the paint on her wings fades a lot more nicely than on the original toy. I love the sculpted feathers on the wing, and I'm glad they moved the copyright markings to her boots rather than the back of her wings. She looks like a cheap 1980s toy made on a collector toy budget, with over 20 points of articulation and is largely molded in color with some paint, rather than being heavily covered in paint. It's a small thing, but when you have hands molded in color, it means you can't scrape the color off - that ensures figures will look good for the long haul. I'm betting a lot of dads are buying these figures for their children, so when they sell them at the second-hand collectible shop they should hold up well.
She's so good I wonder if people will mis-remember the Origins figure as something they saw as a child 35 years ago. I picked her up at a record store on the cheap, actually my first basic figure in the line. (I found some clearance Deluxe figures and exclusives that got me started.) I knew I would want Castle Grayskull, which has an all-white version of her, but that wouldn't be good enough. But what I want is a Filmation one, so arguably this one may not be good enough either if a better one comes down the line. I'm by no means a completist here, I just want what I saw on the cartoon and right now, this is the closest thing. Online stores have her for around $10 right now, and I paid less than that - that's a "why wouldn't you buy this figure?" price if you have any interest in this line. Depending on how happy you are with the mini-comic version, or your desire for a Filmation one, you may not need this one. But she was there, and I said "sure, that's cheap and I'm going to want a blue, white, and orange Sorceress."
