A tale of two Diamonds! Diamond as a company is so big, they have two booths. One is Diamond Select, which manufactures toys and statues and Battle Beasts and other wonderful things. The other is Diamond Distribution, which puts out Previews every month and basically distributes comics to every shop in the country. The most exciting thing from where I sit is Battle Beasts, which we covered in a separate gallery. They also do a number of items for Star Wars, Star Trek, Munsters, Universal Monsters, and everything else that makes life worth living.
A lot of new Marvel vs. Capcom Minimates are on deck, including Poison, Guile, Zangief, Rufus, and others you're probably going to knock over kids and little old ladies to get because you, sir, are a terrible person. Walking Dead will get another comic book-inspired series, which is sure to be as popular as the first-- which is doing very well so far. Fans of promotional Minimates, I managed to track down a grand total of three which you can see here. The blue Battle Beasts Vorin was given away at the booth. The gold Battle Beasts Vorin was given away at a party. The red Dig Deep Entertainment Agent 88 figure was also given away at a party. The moral of the story? Even people like me somehow get invited to good parties at Comic-Con. And bring them down. But I digress.
Star Trek will expand with a Klingon Bird of Prey, the Excelsior-class ships, a Klingon Disruptor, an all-new Spock figure with swappable limbs and amazing accessories (from one of the worst episodes of the show, to boot). The Marvel Select lineup has Ultron and Nightcrawler and the rest, but the real winner here is Venom. Diamond informed me that the aim is that this is a sort of "Ultimate Venom" with multiple heads and parts you can switch around to effectively make the greatest Venom action figure of all time. Well, I'm sold. When can I get mine?
Over on Star Wars were new banks and, amazingly, neon signs. Boba Fett and Darth Vader signs grace the very bottom of this article, and new banks of a 1:4 scale Jawa and an exquisite Clone Wars animated Obi-Wan Kenobi bust bank were shown as well. Solid metal bottle openers of the Millennium Falcon should be gracing your rumpus rooms, man-caves, and other unpleasant names of dwellings soon as well. Take a look below for more of this great stuff!
