What's next for Mattel? Not Major Matt Mason, sadly. A concept (with no intention to make a product) Brawlin' Buddy was in the wrestling area, and numerous vintage items were on display. When asked why, we were informed there was no plan to make near-term products but they were out there just to see if it got a good reaction. I can't help but wonder if the Four Horsemen are currently busy working on prototype 3 3/4-inch figures to be compatible with their super-awesome Outer Space Men line, but I hope so!
Numerous costumed people were on hand, including someone wearing a 2015-via-1989 Back to the Future II outfit to promote the hoverboard. Considering how much space she and the prototype took up, it's astonishing Mattel devoted so much to it. It's a fantastic looking item, and the first-ever glimpse of the 6-inch action figure scale bonus hoverboard-- complete with scooter handlebars-- were shown. No figures were shown, nor are they expected.
Sadly Ghostbusters has little new on deck beyond a new figure and some more prop replicas, but hey-- it's more than we got for the last few years! The new PKE Meter and Ecto Goggles look pretty fantastic, and you'll have another courtroom figure for your collection soon.
I don't know what I was looking at for Cars. Voltron is continuing but it seems little new is on deck. KITT from Knight Rider was on display-- a full-size one-- and that was pretty awesome.
