Iron Man Foot and Hand DetailHasbro really lucked out with its acquisition of Marvel as a license, because lines like Iron Man are, seemingly, largely winners. For the second film, the toymaker delved more into the comic book world of the character including more than one version of the yellow-and-red version of ol' shell head here. Surprisingly each version seems to be largely new tooling-- sure, they repaint them some times, but this one is mostly new parts.

This 4 1/4-inch figure is jointed at about 14 places, but with all the double-knee joints and fancy hips you could probably round up to 18 points of articulation. Capable of assuming tons of awesome battle poses (although not really good at sitting), this is probably one of the best Iron Man figures you can get. Its glossy and metallic paint job covers a muscular frame with lots of detail. For example, his crotch and butt have horizontal lines on them. I presume this is to make the suit fly faster, as he also has painted jets on the soles of his boots. The amount of detail here is really excellent, and it's clearly superior to Toy Biz' similarly sized offerings.

Iron Man Wrist BlastThe downside? The hip joints aren't great. Hasbro uses these on many of its Marvel figures, and it's really hard to pose the figure to sit. Basically, the legs are designed more for swiveling than bending, so you should probably expect him to stand. You'll need to fuss with these for him to use his fire base, but since his stance is almost too wide for it, it's an accessory that will most likely hit the junk drawer. The energy blast projectile fits his hand, but it seems to be a little limp so it may not work for a display piece in the long term.

Overall, a decent figure for the price, although $8 is a little too much for any figure of this scale, good or bad. I dig it, though, and am not sorry I sprang for it.
