If there's one thing Hasbro excels at, it's getting a lot out of their molds. This Iron Patriot figure is not Tony Stark, but rather Norman "Green Goblin" Osborn in some stolen and modified Iron Man armor-- which works well, because Hasbro just painted an existing Extremis Armor Iron Man and changed the chest to get you this new release. It doesn't perfectly match the character art, but the important thing is that it's pretty close and looks really cool. Hasbro has been doing a lot of "bad good guys" with Decepticon cop cars and the like, so seeing this patriotic villain is a pretty cool spin on the hero/villain cliche. That, and it doesn't hurt to inject ol' Norman Osborne with some of Lex Luthor's personality.

This figure is super-articulated and turned out very well. Like most Iron Man figure, there are repulsors on the hands and feet which are painted a unique color. Due to the unique construction of the figure, Iron Patriot has a whopping 20 points of articulation. The construction of his hips will prevent him from doing much sitting, but let's face it, that's not what you buy this kind of figure for. The metallic deco is really nice and I hope it won't flake off with time. It's a really nice looking release of a fairly significant character from Marvel's current storylines, and as repaints go he's pretty nice.

If you want something a little different, Hasbro also made an unmasked variant with Norman Osborne's trademark hair. It's pretty swell, and at press time we're seeing plenty of both at retail. Both versions have the same accessories, including a yellowish energy blast accessory which is basically junk drawer fodder. It's nice of Hasbro to throw something in there, but an alternate head (rather than a variant) would have been more useful. I'd give this one a strong "buy" because it's neat and the first-ever Iron Patriot toy, too!
