Plastic Imagination Rise of the Beasts Cerula - Green Scorpion with Grey Paint Action FiguresHe's green! The Glyos-powered Rise of the Beasts line is pretty fantastic, although it's hard to view them purely as wholly their own thing. I keep expecting to see squat little guys, but Cerula - Green Scorpion with Grey Paint is more of what a small figure of the 1990s might look like, rather than the 1980s. The overly-muscular creature is fundamentally the same as Cahriv except for the coloration.

While there are no weapons as of yet, the Skeleden axe (see below) fits quite nicely into his pincers. You can't buy them individually just yet, but if you ever can you should snag a few for Cahriv.

The colors selected make a world of difference, as the original release had cybernetic elements which were totally masked by the dark plastic. Instead of a green head with a green band, Cerula has a green head with a black band and that makes all the difference. The figure retains the same tiny, perfectly painted eyes which are gold on one side and dark green on the other. The teeth are still white, and the body paint is glossy much like Bal Kharn. I prefer the orange look of the first figure, but I appreciate this one looks incredibly different with just a little change to the color. The claws don't seem to show off as much detail as the black plastic version, but the shiny muscles do a fine job of highlighting just how odd a beefy arthopod can be.

The hands are a little too big to use 3mm weapons, but odds are you'd want the claws to be his "weapons" anyway. I'm hoping to see some really crazy colors as the line goes on, so far they're doing a nice job of making safe choices. I'm pretty amazed to see just how well some paint can set apart different figures cast in the same green plastic color. I don't want to say "don't miss this one," but if you're placing an order anyway you really might as well get this one too. All of the painted guys are really something.
