I can only imagine how excited Hasbro and Mattel get when Marvel or DC introduce new color costumes for their hit characters. The Compound Hulk takes this a step further, by fusing regular green Hulk and the meaner red Hulk, and combining them into a single figure-- never mind both versions were sold individually for a few years now, because you can get both at once. By using the Red Hulk version of the mold, this figure has a very angry face plus fists-- other Hulks have different expressions and in some cases, other hands.

What's particularly interesting about this guy is how he was molded-- his left-hand side is molded (mostly) in red plastic, with the head and torso molded in green and painted over in red. The colors match quite nicely, although the painted red "pops" a bit more. The green half is, of course, molded green and looks green. The figure has the same giant feet and torn pants as the original mold, plus sports about 14 points of articulation. Most of the joints work well, but it's worth noting that on this figure, like the Iron Monger from the comic figure line, the hip joints don't allow the figure to sit. They merely rotate. The arms are quite posable and are fantastic for assuming any of a number of menacing poses, so you can get him into a brawl with your other toys and he's just going to look amazing.

The figure is just as muscley and veiney as the mold's previous releases, and a light wash brings out much of the detail. I like this-- but I can't figure out why his finger and toenails are painted on the red side, but not the green one. It looks a little weird, and while it's distinctive it raises a few questions. I'd love to see this made into the Marvel vs. Capcom Orange Hulk some day, and I'd say as a bizarre addition to your stash it's well worth picking up. The figure has surprisingly ornate packaging with a typical carded figure inside a box with fairly extensive graphics. Depending on how anal you are, you might want to get three of them so you can have one in the box, one out of the box but on the card, and another out so you can play/display with it.

Due to the figure's hip design, it's extremely difficult to get both feet on to the display stand-- amusingly numbered "50/50." With his oversized feet he needs no help standing, so just get one, open it, and plop it on your desk. He'll be happy there.
