I'm no bike guy, but I saw the Matchbox Indiana Jones Ducati Scrambler at Dollar Tree for $1.25, along with the Tuk Tuk, and bought them. Yeah, they're from Indiana Jone and the Dial of Destiny but I was out and having a rough day, so I bought them both - they had several of each. The packaging stands out from the standard Matchbox orange cardbacks, and I support move vehicles in that line - so I got 'em. Admittedly I was not sure if this was Helena Shaw's bike or not when I bought it. (It is.)
At the price, I recommend it - even if it doesn't quite match up perfectly with the movie. It's a good fan gift, it's a fun bike, and it's a dollar. I wouldn't pay the secondary market prices for it, though.
Given Hasbro's line didn't exactly take off, I'm kind of surprised Mattel made these this year - but hey, I bought them, they're doing something right. The bike can't stand unassisted, so you may wish to leave it packaged. Once out of the box, it flops over - maybe you have some clear plastic USB covers on your desk or a small screw to prop it up. The tires are black, most of the toy is silver metal, and the seat is black. It doesn't quite match the bike in the movie, but the license plate does!
There isn't much painted detail - take a look. It's a neat little toy bike, and I assume kids would have more fun with it than the average collector, unless the collector just puts the packaged vehicle on a wall at work and says "yes, I like this." Then it's pretty great. The bike itself doesn't look quite as good as the illustration, but any small car or bike is fun to fidget with on your desk. It's by no means a bad product - it's just not as good as their cars or trucks.
I was curious to see how it turned out, and I found out! Mattel did some nice painting on the seat and made a perfectly good toy motorcycle - it just turns out I am not a toy motorcycle guy when no figures are involved. I don't think it's disappointing, it's just not the kind of thing I'll probably track down again unless there's a $1.25 classic Tron Light Cycle some day. Recommended... if you like this kind of thing.
