Review: Onell Design Glyos Pheyden Neo Standard Action Figure

Figure of the DayOnell Design Glyos Pheyden Neo Standard Action Figure ReAction FiguresSomething new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!

Old! This Onell Design Glyos Pheyden Neo Standard Action Figure takes the basic Pheyden mold and adds some swell scarring and lines to make it look more like Scar Pheyden - what's amazing is it came after the Scar Pheyden tooling. It's a nice-looking figure, and particularly worthwhile if you're short on Pheydens. Do read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!

Star Wars Review: Queen Amidala (The Retro Collection)

Star WarsVia the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Queen Amidala (The Retro Collection). She's in that six pack at Target you may find now, and has a lot of very 1980s details like the wavy fabric pattern on her leg interiors as well as the Leia-ish poses of her hands. She also has some thing no original figure had, like the extended collar element and her long hair. Overall, it's a pretty great figure. Read the whole review.

Hot Wheels x Transformers Transforming Optimus Prime

TransformersEat ItVia Mattel Creations: Hot Wheels Transformers Optimus Prime. The 1:64 scale truck - roughly the same size as Hot Wheels cars and Hasbro's Spy Changers and GoBots from G2 - has a metal body, accessories, and Spectraflame paint. It's fancy, but also priced $10 above the Missing Link cab-only toy which is taller and has slightly more articulation and accessories.

Hasbro rarely approves transforming toys to licensees - that may be why this item has a higher retail price. A non-transforming Transformers Hot Wheels Optimus Prime Truck 1:64 Scale Die-Cast Metal Vehicle is also coming, complete with trailer, for under ten bucks too, which may be better for those wanting something for their scale cities and tracks.

7-11 Tetris Push for 40th Anniversary

Video GamesEat ItVia 7-11: 7-Eleven, Inc. Teams Up With The Tetris Company for Slurpee Drink-Inspired Handheld Gaming Device and Themed 7Collection Drop. They did a whole Pac-Man thing a couple of years ago, but now you can enter a contest to win a cup-shaped portable Tetris device.

There are a lot of hats and shirts, and if you're thinking "I don't think I was playing Tetris back in 1984?" you'd be right. Home consoles got it in 1989, and I believe the arcade game was 1988 - but people may have been sharing it on floppy disc prior to that. You just weren't playing it in a 7-11 in 1984.

Star Wars Review: Qui-Gon Jinn (The Retro Collection)

Star WarsVia the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Qui-Gon Jinn (The Retro Collection). As part of the new Episode I retro 6-pack, this is a pretty nice figure - the lightsaber and fabric cloak are great accessories, while the figure has a nice head sculpt that looks like it would fit in with a lot of the originals. Steve Albini Dead at 61

MusicEat ItVia Pitchfork and elsewhere: Steve Albini, Storied Producer and Icon of the Rock Underground, Dies at 61. He's most famous for a lot of things - engineering In Utero for Nirvana, recording albums for the likes of Man or Astro-Man? and Fred Schneider and The Pixies and Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and much more, playing in the bands Big Black and Shellac, and more.

Shellac has a new album due in about a week, To All Trains, and who the heck knows what else he was working on.

(The image is from the legendary Chunklet #15, one of very few issues of an utterly fantastic magazine that mostly went over my head at the time because you've gotta do your homework to understand most of it.)

Nintendo SwitchArcade Archives NUMAN ATHLETICS Via Nintendo: Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition Ð Deluxe Set. The $60 physical version has a non-functioning gold NES cartridge, 13 art cards, and 5 pins - which arguably makes it interesting for what appears to be a remix of NES Remix. It sees release July 18.

Star Wars Review: Jar Jar Binks (The Retro Collection)

Star WarsVia the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Jar Jar Binks (The Retro Collection). I have been seeing a steady trickle of this figure at Target, where it's an exclusive closed-box six pack with six individually carded figures inside. This is one of the better ones - his hands are more modernized than most retro figures, but he's still pretty charming and fits in more Mini-Rigs than I anticipated. Read the whole review.
