It's Playmobil Month! The Playmobil 2020 Toy Fair Mermaid Figure is a Toy Fair 2020 giveaway - and the first of a month of reviews of the German toy line. The figure was sold in another, larger set but I got mine for free in a little pillow box in New York, just before COVID-19 lockdowns struck the USA but after a lot of international clients skipped the trade show out of an abundance of caution. Unlike the classic mermaid figures, this one has a multi-piece tail and looks pretty awesome sitting on a chair or the side of a boat. If you want this figure, just get 70099 Pearly Collectors with Manta Ray - it's got more stuff in the box. So read on, and come back tomorrow for more toys!

Playmobil month continues! The Playmobil 70177 Volkswagen Volkswagen Beetle is new this year, but for some reason Walmarts already put them on clearance - and it's well worth the asking price. Not only do you get a sturdy toy car, but you get a family going to the beach complete with a sand castle and for some reason Brad Pitt from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. I'd recommend it. Via The Glyos News Dump: Healey Made Assassin (R-Complex) Makes Painted Debut. The $25 figure was previously sold in a "test shot" blue color, but this one is a bit closer to the Shadow Raider - the first colorway of Healey Made's previous Glyos figure.
The Kenner-like figure has a removable tail and has more than a few similarities to Bossk - but not in color. The green-skinned alien has a black and purple jumpsuit, and if the feet aren't too big, will probably be at home in one of my Mini-Rigs in a couple of weeks. It sold out, so don't expect to get one - it was $25.00.

It's Playmobil Month! The Playmobil "Fi?ures" Figures Confederate Soldier is something of a modern relic - it came out in 2015, and I assume it is unlikely that we'll see more like it. So read on, and come back tomorrow for more toys!
Via Analogue: Analogue's Super Nt, DAC, and Mega Sg are in stock now. You probably weren't paying attention pre-pandemic, but Analogue had these in stock for the longest time and it's no surprise they were hesitant to restock. When the Analogue Nt Mini Noir was restocked earlier this year, supplies lasted a few days before selling out again.
I should note, despite what their pictures show, no controller is included. Read the fine print, and/or use your old controllers. At $200 a whack they're not cheap, but if you've got a box of old cartridges you're probably old enough to have a few bucks where you can make a case for playing them on new hardware. If you want to.
If you are happy with your old consoles - or MiSTeR or emulators or whatever - you probably don't need these. But if you have a bunch of old cartridges and a monitor with an HDMI port, you probably very much want these. I'm particularly fond of the Mega Sg because of the surprisingly robust European Mega Drive homebrew scene, which still cranks out new games. Many of these are fan-made ports of old ZX Spectrum titles, but they're a blast to play on a jailbroken unit.

Playmobil month continues! The Playmobil The Real Ghostbusters 9388 Stantz with Sky Bike is not new, but it's kind of amazing. Ray has blue accessories, like a lot of the old Kenner stuff. The Sky Bike is very much like an old Kenner vehicle, sort of like a simpler M.A.S.K. release with firing rockets. The ghost seems more like a designer art toy. And it's $10.57 on Amazon at press time which is an absolute bargain. So read on, and come back tomorrow for more!

Playmobil will be shipping its Enterprise jumbo playset in September, and you can order it from site sponsor Entertainment Earth or Amazon or even Playmobil directly. They put up a short TV spot of young adults playing with the thing, a premise that seems to be as believable as a ship from the future with furry creatures born pregnant.
It's ridiculously big, but it seems to be one of the more impressive toy models of the ship. As of now there are no known plans for additional Trek sets, but previous licenses launched with one or two sets and expanded. Hopefully this will too. As of yet the instruction sheet hasn't leaked and the details of what the iOS app for the toy actually does is something of a mystery.

The Playmobil 4803 Pirates Ghost Whale Skeleton is a set I picked up on clearance almost 10 years ago, back when it was still selling for full price at a Toys R Us next to a Tuesday Morning store. Via The Kickstarter: Roniu's Tale for the NES. Supposedly this launches today - at this time I have no details other than it's by Mega Cat Studios and they've put out some neat stuff.
A black cartridge is shown in the teaser image, and I hope it's good. It's a puzzle action game, and hopefully coming soon. I could use a new game.

Via Twitter: Super NES Port of Mega Man 4. User @indidelity_nes ported the NES game Mega Man 4 to the Super NES, but what's impressive is that it seems to look, sound, and behave exactly like the NES original. If you play all your games in emulators this is probably not remotely interesting, but it's an impressive technical feat.
And if you don't have an NES ROM cart, but have a way to play Super NES ROMs on your hardware, this could be good for you. Mostly it's fascinating to see an NES game on the Super NES without any enhancements, because it's not something I've seen anyone attempt before.
Via The Playmofriends Forum: 70746 - Violet Vale - Demon Portal / Demon Lair. The line looks like the manufacturer took a lot of cues from Masters of the Universe with magic, technology, castles, and monsters... and apparently threw in a demon-summoning portal in the mix. Reviewer Raven put up a bunch of pictures of the new set, which is available to order in most of the world right now. I'd say "it's in a store near you," but at least here, most stores with Playmobil discontinued the 47-year-old German toy.

It's Playmobil Month! The Playmobil 5603 City Life Tour Bus is something I saw a bunch of on clearance, so I bought it - and it's big! I can't say it's the wackiest, weirdest, or most clever thing they've done but it is absolutely a big bus with a lot of seating capacity and few reviews online. Via Mattel Creations: The Heroes That Could've Been are in going up Friday for $75 a pop. The designs are more TMNT than Street Sharks in terms of articulation, but the paint jobs look absolutely stunning. Mattel's early 90s action figure line thrived thanks to its big packaging that allowed you to test out the biting mechanisms in the figures' heads, but these don't have any of that. It's for collectors.
It looks like most of the money is going to tooling and paint, because each figure has 3-4 points of articulation - and seemingly nothing below the waist. They do look super cool and are certainly a neat idea for pitching out obscure and unusual toys. They go up on the crowdfunding site on Friday morning, if you dare.

Via many outlets including Disney Food Blog with a list: Is Your Disney Store On the Latest LONG ÒClosing SoonÓ List? I was surprised to find the Arrowhead Mall location in Arizona closed during a visit over the weekend, as it's not a store that was ever a regular stop as it never really had massive action figure game. The Arizona Mills location - usually just an outlet store - is also now closing.
A couple dozen locations should remain open, as well as the store-within-a-stores in various places like Target and JCPenney. Given how few places remain in the USA that you could call a "toy store," particularly one that focuses primarily on goods for actual children and not man-children, it will be missed.

Playmobil month continues! The Playmobil Scooby-Doo! 70286 Mystery Machine with Figures is not new, but it's a mold that continues to see use and tends to be cheaper with this particular license. (The A-Team Van is $90 and uses the same vehicle mold.) This one may not be a perfect match to the TV show, but it's colorful and fun - which is what I want. Via HasLab: Transformers Victory Saber got about 1000 backers in the first hour last Friday when it launched. It's $180 for a Victory Leo and a Star Saber that combine into Victory Saber, and it looks like it might be about the size of Siege Jetfire but that's tough to tell.
While no release date appears on the page at press time, emails sent to backers indicate a "late 2022" release - so count on early 2023.
Via HasLab: Marvel Legends Galactus is set to end Monday at midnight EDT. It met its stretch goals, some of which are only on social media and oddly not on this page - weird. But you can get one, it's $399.99, and it'll probably be $800 on eBay in a few months because that's how this usually works.
Via AMclicks: Nuevas Referencias Asterix y Obelix. If your dad is Greek and is trying to get you to learn his native language, you know all about Asterix. If you're an ugly American like me... you know about it because your friend's dad made him read these comics in Greek. From the scan, it looks like at least six sets of this European powerhouse are coming to Europe in June of next year. There's no word on if there will be an American release or not - as there was no Heidi release there's no reason to believe this is a sure thing. The houses are pretty fantastic, though.
Since we are not sure of the nature of the image release, we're just going to show a comic thumbnail.
Also Playmobilermua posted scans of a 2022 catalog, some sets were already revealed. The Mini license may be of interest, but there's no product shot. No new entertainment properties were shown at this time, but that teaser for a Mini Cooper has my attention.
Via Kickstarter: Goodboy Galaxy: exploration platform game (GBA, PC & SWITCH). It looks pretty good - but the tiers are strange, as (at press time) the GBA cartridge tier is sold out, but you can get it as an add-on. Curious. Regardless, you get a dog in a space suit and you can insert Muttroid jokes here.
Via In the Red Records and one Henry Rollins: Four Plugs - Wrong Treatment Ð Biking Girl 7Ó is just one of many reissues/special 7" records being put out by In The Red Records, including stuff from Pure Hell and Alan Vega. If this doesn't mean anything to you, don't worry about it, but you probably want to make sure before these sell out.

It's the finale of Playmobil Month! The Playmobil 70071 The Movie Robotitron with Drone is a set I picked up on clearance just recently, and it was part of a line for a movie you probably didn't realize came out in the first place. The robot is a redeco of something from the 1980s, the glider is basically identical to a vehicle from 2017, and all together it's a pairing that doesn't make a lot of sense. Via The Toy Book: It's Official: Toy Fair Dallas 2021 is Canceled. There are numerous toy fairs across the globe and some are for business to business, some are for the press and business, and some even allow civilians. Texas' Dallas Toy Fair is usually a smaller, business-only affair with few to no press announcements or significant coverage. (It's all fun and games, but it's also not all fun and games.)
Originally set for October 5-7, the typically very small show is now canceled. New York Comic Con was set to immediately follow it - October 7-10 - and is currently still slated to happen.
