For better or worse, sometimes I pick up a figure just because it's cheap enough to be interesting to play with. The Iron Man 2 Guardsman caught my eye because it was one of two green figures in the line, and even though I'm not that steeped in the lore of the comic enough to know who the heck this is, I do know I enjoy a funky figure when it doesn't cost me much.
On the whole this figure is very similar to the rest of the line, it has tons of articulation and clearly wasn't designed to sit down in vehicles. At about 4-inches tall, he as no real problems standing up or assuming any of a number of combat-ready poses. Aside from the character-specific sculpt, the one thing that really weirded me out about this one were his ankles-- almost every single Hasbro Marvel-licensed figure usually has ball-jointed feet. This one? Hinges. While I don't have a complete collection of Hasbro Marvel toys, I know enough that this is unusual.
The design of the action figure is pretty close to the art I see on Google Images, which, obviously, is the research tool all the cool kids are using these days. As to the figure's deco, it really does look unusually shiny due to the sculpting and materials used. The guy is rippling out of his armor, and the quasi-pearlescent paint sure makes him light up easily. His only accessory is an energy blast that fits over his fist, which sure as heck beats not having any gear at all. I don't think this one is going to knock your socks off, but if you want a Guardsman this beats not having one at all. I think it looks like a good figure in its own right but it isn't going to win any beauty contests.
