Hasbro Transformers Generations Combiner Wars First Aid Action FigureIt's rare that limbs of a combiner toy get a lot of individual personality or face time, but More Than Meets the Eye gives First Aid a lot to do - it helps that the comic is packed with medics. As a secondary Ratchet-like toy, it should come as no surprise he had a similar alt mode and function in the past - but now, he's a remolded pick-up truck. It works. The new head, tweaked arms, and reshelling give you a whole new vehicle which was also repurposed for BotCon's customization class Ratchet and Medix - and with their variants, that makes like 6 toys you'll never own. This is apparently what it means to serve the fan community.

With his ascent from "part" to "character," he sold pretty well last year and this entire wave did a fine job evaporating from stores rather quickly. If you can snag one for a good price, stop what you're doing and procure one. And then read the rest of the review.

I'm very fond of Offroad [FOTD #1,193] and this figure is effectively the same toy in terms of transformations. And also Ironhide [FOTD #1,311] and Trailbreaker [FOTD #1,403] and War Breakdown and the BotCon Medix and Ratchets and goodness knows what else is coming. Everything fits together pretty well, giving us a decent, expressive robot mode. The eyes are nice and big, the head's helmet is pretty massive, giving him a relatively youthful and I daresay cute appearance. Seriously, he's adorable. Tailgate's peepers should be so big! If it wasn't for the shoulder kibble, the range of motion would be pretty fantastic. First Aid sports 14 joints and his big giant boots will keep him standing in a number of awkward poses. It's a lot of fun, plus he can hold his axe really well. This isn't a surprise, really, because at this point any company that makes a figure who can't hold his own weapon should probably be relieved of their lunch money.

The hand/foot/gun is the same as his mold mates, in black, so whatever. Trailbreaker got a different set of digits on his, at least, so if you're all-in for American remakes of this mold you shouldn't wind up with two in the same colors. It's not a very convincing gun, but it functions nicely as a hand or a foot. It also plugs on the back of the vehicle mode quite nicely. Massaging the parts in place to get the truck is also quite easy to do, as Hasbro has a mercifully obvious transformation here. The van mode is nice, with the word "Rescue" and "Emergency" scrawled on the sides. The red paint and white stripes are nice and clean, as are the metallic reds on the light bar. As ambulances go, it's pretty sharp - it's a shame the remold/recolor Ratchet isn't going to be widely available. This is a nice little mold.

The limb works just as well as any of the others, and I've got him as a foot. He makes a nice arm too. Along with Rook, it's a fine team. The toes on the foot have two little gun barrels on each, so it's kind of weird but at least it's distinctive so you can tell which one goes to which. Assuming you keep photo reference. It's getting harder to remember which handfootgun goes to who these days. I'd get extras of this if I could.

Just because he's kinda neat and has a cool function, you should get one. All of the modes are useful, and as an individual he looks great - the combination gimmick almost takes away from that greatness because Defensor demands I never see First Aid's face. It's a shame, it's a nice face. If your budget permits, get this figure. If you see it at a store, snag it. It's worth it.
