Hasbro Transformers Generations Titans Return Decepticon Fangry Action FigureI'm of the opinion that most collectors are currently skipping Titans Return Titan Masters figures - they're cheap, hard to find, and easy to forget. $5 toys don't have to work hard to become $10 or more expensive, so if you skip Decepticon Fangry now I assume you'll be sorry later - it may not be a full-size Fangry toy, but it is a neat toy unto itself. If you can't bear to deal with this sort of change, you already know you don't want this. If you want a fun, small, cheap toy you're in for a big treat though.

This 1.5-inch robot looks a little like a downsized Fangry and a little like his original Headmasters companion Brisko. The colors are similar, but the pink parts and black parts don't necessarily match up. New Fangry's head is unpainted , and so is the rest of him save for the faceplate backpack. Articulation is good, the detail is excellent at the size, and he functions exactly as well as all the rest. You won't be impressed, nor will you be disappointed.

The Decepticon Fangry head mode looks like the original toy's head - it's black, and it has a green face with matching green visor. Some contrast would be nice, but for those who want a good replica of the original head, this is it. You won't get a good body to go with it, but it looks decent enough on Mindwipe if you picked him up. I'd still love to see a full-size Fangry, but I'm not betting that this will happen despite the insistence-sans-proof that fans claim Hasbro said they'd make full-size versions of the Titan Masters later. I'd be willing to bet this happening might be coincidental down the road, but unless this segment lasts another couple of years it just ain't gonna happen honey.

The dragon mode is wild. You'll love it. The black head and pink wings may remind you of another famous dragon, plus they painted the scales of its neck grey and it has lovely yellow eyes. How can you not like this? There's a cannon in its neck - that's not ideal - but it's very fun and cute and all those groovy things. A Titan Master robot can sit on his back, too, so this mode should be enough to warrant spending the five bucks.

The winged werewolf mode is also neat. It's basically the dragon mode standing on two legs with the more dragony bits tucked out of the way, with a nice wolf head and a decent set of painted eyes. Sure, it's corny, but it's fun. We don't get a lot of micro toys or beast-to-beast toys, so seeing something with fur and scales and leathery wings on a single toy have two decent creature modes makes for a lot of fun. Transformation is simple enough that you probably won't have too many problems with it.

Finally, there's a blaster mode - its' goofy but it works. You'll need to suspend your disbelieve that a gun can be made of legs, a tail, and wings, but it's certainly not the worst gun we've seen and it's probably not even the worst accessory mode in this wave of figures. It gets the job done, and were it left out I doubt you'd miss it.

Some people told me they didn't like this one. My reaction to it was largely immediately positive - so maybe it's divisive. There's a lot of that going around these days, so I'd say blow the $5 on it if you dig the premise of it being a nifty new cheap toy rather than dwelling on the fact that it wasn't the big deluxe toy you may have been expecting.
