Onell Design Glyos Glyarmor Cytechion DX Action FigureFancy! Onell Design posted that they were aiming to do fancier paint jobs more in line with The Outer Space Men, and they got it. Standing about 3-inches tall, Glyarmor Cytechion DX is expensive but there's a lot of action here. The figure is molded in the same clear green plastic as Rayexx [FOTD #1,665], but with layers of paint. Many layers. There's a creamy yellow layer, metallic gold, and some grey - plus a few places for the green to peer through.

Onell Design has been playing around with paint and prices. Sometimes we see simpler and unpainted figures that are super cheap. Sometimes we get panel lines or packaging. In this case we just get multiple layers of paint which really looks great - it's a lot like the fancier "Cosmic Creators" The Outer Space Men action figures. It's shiny, it's gorgeous, and it costs 66% more than the "normal" version of a similar figure. (It's also cool enough to be worth it.)

Molded in green, a dense layer of paint brings the figure to life. And so does armor. It's basically a standard Pheyden figure with wrist and shin armor, extra arms and legs, plus two spare heads. The default configuration is gorgeous, but if you want a bird head or a classic Pheyden head? You have those options. Pheyden's eyes are easily the best I've ever seen. A black outline with gold and white in the middle shines beautifully in the light, and there's a grey band around the neck.

The bird head has a gold beak, white eyes, grey cybernetic implants, and a cream corn colored neck. It looks nifty, but the other two heads will likely be your preferred noggins just because they're so lively with the abundance of gold. The standard helmet looks like it came out of an early 2000s sci-fi video game with a green visor, gold dome, and a little grey where the "mouth" would be. I would love to see them have left a little window on the back so light can shine through and make the visor glow, but hey - this is still really nice.

The figure did sell out pretty quickly, with green soles, gold toes, and nifty shin armor. There's a lot of rich color here, with little hints of green shining through all over the place.

Deluxe figures are an interesting beast - on one hand, they're the fanciest things money could buy. On the other, the $10 ones are pretty good. If you want something on your shelf that's dazzling, do yourself a favor and pick this one up. Or any of the ones with metallic paint over clear, really - they do impress under most lighting conditions. It's nothing new as far as tooling goes, but it's definitely a step forward as far as what you can do with paint on an Onell Design figure. Snag it if the price is right.
