Another one? Yup. Three toys based on this mold exist, with this Windblade giving you a new masked face as well as a more ornate paint job. I'm not saying it's the best one, but it's certainly the most colorful. We previously looked at this mold of Windblade [FOTD #1,578] after she hit shelves last year.
With 14 points of articulation, the 5-inch robot is simple and pretty great. The arms and legs have a good range of movement, and she's sturdy. You aren't going to accidentally knock things out of position. Well, maybe the wings - but her arms, torso, and legs all stay where they should. Articulation is nice and tight, and I love the added yellow highlights. The blue fan on her head is a nice touch, as are all the colors bringing her to life. Sadly, her sword is undecorated.
The figure is molded in basically the same colors as before with darker red and a little bit more paint. Instead of a too-dark and almost imperceptible red on her calf area, now she has a more striking silver and yellow on her knees and shins. It may not be true to the comic or TV show, but it looks super cool. There is no wrist articulation, but the fans can turn. I like that.
Transformation still simple, and not too different from the recent "headmaster" version. The nosecone backpack folds over her head, the legs become the back of the jet, and a "tail" folds over the gap to make the jet.
The jet can store the sword between her legs, and there's a retractable landing skid under the nose cone. Each fan can be positioned, but other than that it's basically just a plane you can fly around and go "whoosh." It makes better use of paint than the previous model, with silver stripes on the wings as opposed to no paint at all. It also has a bright blue canopy, which looks sharper than the black one last time. I can't see how anyone wouldn't like this new Windblade. The detailing is smooth and consistent with the rest of the Robots in Disguise aesthetic, but with her mask on the lack of a nose won't bother you as much. She might even fit in on your "classic" shelves.
As I now have three of this mold, I don't want any more - I almost didn't get this one. The figure turned out well and she looks cool, but just because of the amount of new stuff Hasbro releases she may end up on the back of a shelf sooner or later. If you don't have any versions of Windblade, or this mold in particular, she's fun and worth snagging for her cool sword and distinctive coloring. The fan in her head can also pop off, so if you buy an unpackaged one make sure it's there first. Or lowball the dealer.
