Hasbro Transformers The Last Knight Premier Edition Bumblebee Action FigureFrom The Last Knight comes Bumblebee, yes another one, and this time it's a new mold with a swappable arm cannon. To complain about there being a movie with a new Bumblebee toy would be like complaining that a fish is wet - this is going to happen, it will continue to happen, and really all you can do is hope that what you're getting is decent. This one is not decent.

Bumblebee looks like Bumblebee, and the articulation of the robot mode is pretty good. He seems small, with lots of empty space in his bubble. Upon removing him from the package, the feet dangled freely - they tab in place, but it's a weak first impression of a new toy. It's not as bad as when you bought a Star Wars figure and the head popped off in the tray, but it would be nice if it were sturdier at first sight. It's easy to fix, though.

Deco is good, and the Camaro concept is painted nicely. The head is bright with blue eyes and a red Autobot tampo, with a smattering of silver and black bringing this decent robot to life. The grey plastic sadly doesn't match the silver paint, but it's still a charming figure that's vibrant and covered in kibble. I could do without the hanging car parts. The toy itself is on the happy side of decent, as the arms and legs have a good range of motion and I'm amazed you can actually get the knees to bend quite well. I can get some decent poses out of this guy, which was a real surprise. It's not essential to my enjoyment of life, but it's nice. It's better than some of the other Bumblebee toys out there.

Transformation sucks. I hate it. Getting everything aligned is difficult, with parts flinging off because I must have done something wrong. The tab and slots line up, but things are gappy and fly open. I wasted maybe 20+ minutes on the couch trying to get things in place and wanted to throw it against the wall several times. After this review, I will never play with this toy again.

The car is sort of gappy, with yellow paint not quite matching the yellow plastic. Photographs of this toy are shot at curious angles to make it look good, or at least better. The color mismatch highlights how the parts don't fit, even if the parts do fit. The car has spinning wheels, with downplayed manufacturer markings and no wacky license plates or anything. I don't love this.

I readily admit I'm not a big movie fan, but some of these toys are great, or are fun, or just feel good. This is not one of them. Save yourself some money and skip this one, buy something else. Buy someone lunch. Buy a hammer, you'll feel better when you smash this toy with it. Unless, of course, you plan on not transforming it - in which case, maybe it's perfectly fine. It's frustrating and has too many parts hanging off the robot mode, and since there are so many other Bumblebee toys you may not need this one. I don't connect with it, it makes me angry. This toy actually put most of The Last Knight toys into perspective for me - I liked the Voyagers just fine, but other than Sqweeks I could probably have done without most of the deluxes. Drift is fine, Steelbane is frustrating, Berserker is infuriating, and the rest are repaints, or things I haven't opened yet (Crosshairs, Cogman.) I went into this line excited about new robot modes, unique alt modes, and a line that was being positioned as a Marvel Legends for Transformers fans. I'm left considering dumping nearly all of them, and those of you who know me know I rarely sell or get rid of anything once I play with it. That's how much I dislike this Bumblebee.
