Since the early 2000s, getting a white redeco of Optimus Prime named Ultra Magnus was expected and, at first, exciting. It was really cool to see some toys redecorated as Optimus' brother, or cousin, or whatever. Like any good gag, it starts off great and eventually becomes tiring - and then, later, becomes interesting or fun again. This Ultra Magnus came after a real lack of "inner Magnus" toys in the USA, and I believe it's also the most recent of these. As such, it's kind of a charmer.

The mold debuted as Optimus Prime as part of the Reveal the Shield collection, but was retooled on its many rereleases - the figure has a 3mm hole in the back of his head to hold a sword which was not included with this figure, but may be found on Optimus or Motorbreath. If you have tiny Cyberverse weapons, there's a good chance his hands can hold them or they can peg in to the back of his skull.

The 3-inch high robot has 6 points of articulation. The shoulders, elbows, and hips all move and it looks acceptable. .

Transformation is simple - but he has some fit issues like Cliffjumper. Some of the tabs don't quite fit, so I'm seeing gaps because the pieces don't move in place. This is disappointing because these molds are all still in use, you can see newish production of Optimus Prime in stores now. I hope they don't have this problem, as seeing his arms unable to fit together in the back of the truck mode is disappointing.

The truck is good, minus the fit issues - the white body is nice, I like the dark grey legs, and the blue windows are pretty nice. Silver grilles make it even better, and while the wheels are all white, well, things aren't always perfect. It's still striking and the toy likely needs the contrast anyway. You can see an Autobot brand behind the driver's side door.

I went hunting for this like a crazy person a few years ago, and didn't open it until October of this year. Oops. It wasn't really worth the wait. Some mold problems hurt a decent paint job, and the original toy was a gem. I wouldn't recommend overpaying for it, and I wouldn't even buy it at all unless you already had a good, solid Optimus Prime or Motorbreath that actually fit together properly. $7 was probably too much to pay for this one. Another warning - the adhesive had completely dried out, and the bubble flopped right off when I tried to rip it open. It now has a nice, clean cardback.
