I missed the Sarvostar but Matt had one and sent it to me - thanks, Matt! What I love about it is that it looks just like the vintage Alpha Star driver. What I didn't like was that my vintage Alpha Star driver cracked at the crotch while I was taking these pictures, which is surprising given that it was a sealed-box one I bought in college to replace the one my parents made me sell as a kid, and saw little to no actual playtime. I guess life isn't fair, but I digress. This set has a scarf, four heads, two bodies, and a set of limbs - just enough to not make two full figures. The alternate parts are to make a variant Alphaden Commaynder or whatever it is, based on the bearded sci-fi figure from Fisher Price of old.

The core figure is a yellow Sarvos, colored very similarly to the awesome "yellorange" figures from February 2013. You can see the match is pretty close, which is amazing given the aging.

Given what happened to my Alpha Star driver, I'm happy this guy is here - he can hang out in that old ship. (I'd also love to see some The Outer Space Men humans in these colors. Pretty please?) The color-matching to the original toy is phenomenal, and I'm really hoping the Onell Design crew are getting some sort of additional jobs with this valuable skill. Color-matching well is tough, and here they are getting the orange, the bluegrey, and everything pretty much spot-on.

Translating the details from the old figure to the new is tough to do well, but they did managed to take the mirrored silver markings of the original and give us silver squares on the new one. It's not the same thing, but it's pretty close. And I haven't seen little silver rectangles like that on a toy in ages. The eyes take the blue color of the helmet markings, with a red dot that matches the red stripe on top of the figure's helmet.

Articulation of this 2 3/4-inch action figure is typical Glyos fare with each joint being removable. 12 meaningful points of articulation await you, and the figure can stand or sit with the best of them thanks to clear joints and huge feet. The figure is also sized about right to play with Playmobil or Imaginext toys. I like it.

Given the action figure death spiral for most toy lines that aren't "AAA" franchises, it's wonderful to see tributes to the toys of old. Onell Design continues to make figures for toy collectors, and the swappable parts remain superbly fun. Maybe next time we can get a tribute to the grey robot with the red claws, or that awesome alien creature frog thing. They're great toys.
