Transformers Generations Power of the Primes Inferno Action FigureA memorable toy - but not necessarily a memorable character - Inferno has yet to have a traditional "G1 remake." The one from Universe was a G2 version, complete with water launcher - it even called it out as such on the packaging. This new version is a revised Hot Spot [FOTD #1,337] - Hasbro gave him a new head, combiner feet, and some stickers. Oh, and new colors. Since this mold came out people were speculating what it might be, with figures like Super Fire Convoy being considered likely and Onslaught being something more of a surprise. What's interesting is that in a truncated line like Power of the Primes, we're only going to get 5 Voyagers and 3 of them are torsos with incomplete teams. It's unusual - if anything, it makes Power of the Primes seem like filler, something transitional, almost finishing off Combiner Wars while leaving a few G2 redeco figures and Seacons off the table. We got a lot of other goodies though, and figures like Inferno are a neat bonus - and almost an Easter Egg if you remember Guard City. (You don't, but let's pretend you do.)

The robot adds some foil stickers that add some life to the figure. The "lights" on his belt shine in the right conditions, and I have to say I have a soft spot for the foil Autobot symbol on the neck. Usually I hate foil stickers, but the factory did a good job applying these in places that are less likely to show wear and tear. The black fists are here, but we don't get that nifty silver tool hand, or the white wings on the side of the head. Other than that, the colors seem to match the original toy fairly well to the best of the existing mold's ability. The articulation is good and it seems the knees are assembled correctly this time - previous iterations of the mold were a bit off - so this is a pretty decent robot. Also remember, the last "classic" Inferno toy was released in 2009.

Accessorizing this figure could be tricky, but Hasbro ticked all the boxes to give you something decent - even if it is a lot more expensive than it was in blue in 2015. Added parts include robot feet with black instead of grey connectors, plus an Autobot Enigma which is a recolored version of the one we got with Hun-Gurrr.

The Inferno fire truck is the red fire engine of your dreams. Sort of. It's round, it's fun, it has a white ladder - it looks like they slapped the original toy's colors on this mold. The articulated ladder is a lot of fun, but the wheels are kind of strange and it looks uneven when you view it on the side. It's probably the weakest of the three modes, but it's decent enough. We've seen far worse, and the colors are pretty fantastic.

The big combiner torso mode has no name, but it's a great core for a robot made up of spare limbs. The white chest pops against the red thighs and black head with a red cap, and I can't say I know what it was they were going for here. It's seemingly an original design that looks vaguely like the aforementioned Guard City, so if you have some spare Defensor limbs I suggest you put one together.

There's not a lot new here, and it's just different enough to be interesting. A planned Demolishor remold of this toy never made it out, but Inferno's pretty nice - I hold out hope that we might see that Armada-based head some day soon. Since this particular figure has no team I won't tell you it's an essential buy, but as what may be the final new Combiner Wars-style torso for a while I'd suggest getting it if you see it. It's Inferno! Kids love Inferno. Well, Red Alert loves Inferno. Hopefully we'll get him too someday - this is a decent mold and it feels like they tweaked it to make it just a bit better than previous releases. If you don't have any versions of this mold, you might as well snag this one - and if you have a surplus of limbs, that's a second good reason to get this one.
