Be care ful with Phantom Limb. The figure is another in the ongoing series of Mego-style retro action figures, but it uses a different body than the rest and, as an adult collectible, should be handled with care. (Lesson learned: this figure was not meant to sit. Trust me here.) This is a figure best left in the packaging, or displayed standing up. The clear plastic doesn't like to be stressed.

The head sculpt is great, and the coloring is magnificent. The body was a clear plastic (one of my ideas, as I consulted on the line) and the head looks just like the character on the show. The outfit looks like it fell out of 1976 and overall, the design works for this particular figural medium quite nicely. He has no accessories to speak of, but his body is different than the other Bif Bang Pow! Mego figures-- note the biceps on the above photo.
The majority of the Bif Bang Pow! figures are modern relics, new releases meant to evoke and old format, with all of its charm, limitations, and benefits. The Tom Baker Doctor Who may be the best example of plussing up the format, while Phantom Limb may be one of the more stripped-down releases. Compared to his casemate Dr. Orpheus, he doesn't exactly seem impressive, but as a popular character it's not like there's a lot more to do with this particular supervillain. Purple head, purple outfit, invisible limbs, he hits all the high points while the Mego format seems like a bizarre yet totally appropriate way to execute this outfit. It's like He-Man's furry shorts somehow just work on those figures, it almost feels like the series creators conceived of Phantom Limb just to be a Mego figure. (They didn't, as far as I know, but it sure as heck feels like it with the outfit and clear limbs.)
