New York's American International Toy Fair February 16-19, 2019

Return to New York!

What's up this year? Rain! Meetings call me all over town, so while I won't be able to see Mattel's event I will be floating around Hasbro, Diamond, Funko, and tons of other booths and showrooms. Some of which will even allow photographs!

Since you can get decent coverage anywhere, I'm aiming for gimmickry with the GameBoy Camera. I brought three - each can carry 30 images, so I don't know how it will work out. This was an early cheap consumer-level black and white camera, originally sold to kids as a toy in the 1990s. At the time there was no way to get the picture off the camera and on the computer on the then-new dial-up internet. Hackers and modders have since come up with ways to transfer files, so I'm giving those a shot to see what I can bring for you alongside the usual color pictures that everyone does.

After covering the toy business in some capacity for years - I've been reporting first- and second-hand news from Toy Fair since about 1996 - it's a challenge to find new and novel character toys along with the nostalgia grabs. But we look, always. I even got invited to visit The Outer Space Men guys! Thanks for reading and sticking with us!
