I have been dragging my feet on Mega Construx since I bought an Alien and it cracked on me, but late last year I had to go back for Masters of the Universe He-Man. They're supposedly going to release Teela and Beast Man, so why not also get He-Man? For five bucks a pop, they're delightful little figures - it's not quite what we'd get for $5 10 or 20 years ago, but it's exceedingly difficult to find anything at this price point outside a blind bag. And there aren't all that many cheap blind bags left either.
This 2-ish inch scale figure is a pretty good tiny He-Man with more joints than the original figure, and in some respects feels like Mattel once again trying to pivot to the current figure paradigm. Traditional action figures are a tough sell, but at $5 you've got a figure that works with LEGO and is cheap enough that dad might buy it for the heck of it. With about 16 points of articulation, this is a thoroughly impressive and cheap figure. And they're working on Futurama ones too.
It looks more or less like a mishmash of the original He-Man figure with a bit of the cartoon look - the head is simplified but has whites in his eyes, unlike the original toy. The sword of power looks a lot like the cartoon, and the shield is a good match for the original toy.
The deco is good, be sure to look at the eyes and teeth prior to purchase. He holds the sword and shield perfectly, but the holster on the back isn't really all that great. He stands nicely on the display base, and I'm not-so-secretly hoping they keep cranking these out.
I need to stop buying random toys, but I couldn't say no to a mini He-Man. If the line stays small in scope, I've got no problem sinking ten bucks a year into little guys for my desk. Maybe I'll get some of that brick tape stuff and stick these up all over the house. Or maybe not.
