It's rare that I see something weird and exciting that I broadcast to my co-workers with boisterous joy, but the Fire Brigade Accessories is one such toy. Why? Two words: dumpster fire.
While I've never seen an actual dumpster fire - the closest may be a recycling bin on fire on Thomas in Phoenix maybe ten years ago - the expression is one that has permeated the culture for a reason. It's something bad happening to something that was already a problem you wanted to be done with, and now its a toy you can keep in your desk and pull out at dramatic moments. There's a pile of removable garbage in there - effectively a removable trash table - complete with holes and pegs for your flames. What's more, other emergency accessories are included. I wouldn't say it's $15 worth of Playmobil fun, but it's absolutely $20 or more worth of Playmobil novelty.
The dumpster and the hazard sign require the most assembly. The dumpster is perfect - snap on the lid, insert the trash and flames per your choosing, and snap on the wheels. It just plain works. The road sign is a bit of a hassle - snapping in the reflectors doesn't quite come easily, and the blue legs are quite loose. Mine fall off when you pick it up by the white part. I wasn't planning on using the road sign anyway.
The great thing about the dumpster is that you have choices. The fire is easily removed, as is the garbage. If you want to store actual debris from other sets under the "table," or instead of it, you can. It also can go behind your buildings or other sets. It's a heck of a great accessory for any Playmobil city, and if there were more stores and shops that seemed like they needed an alley nearby this would be the must-have accessory. Maybe cats can hang out in it - there are visible fish bones and other interesting elements inside, after all.
The other gear should be familiar - an axe, a chainsaw, traffic cones, and 3 foam projectiles for a fire extinguisher all make for good extras. Anybody can be a firefighter - or maybe a chainsaw-maniac - with this stuff. As I've said, you've got options - it's sets like these that allow you to add more realism or slasher-film fantasy to your sets.
I bought this set for the dumpster fire. It delivers the goods, and I have no idea which sets may have included that particular element previously. This is the first I've noticed it, but I tend to ignore fire and rescue retail releases. I love the chainsaw - I've had one in other colors for years - and the fire rescue extinguisher is a nice, fun touch. All in all it's a handy add-on to any toy box, but you want the dumpster. It's a gem. The rake is nice - but who wants to pretend to rake? I want to pretend to set a dumpster on fire, and now I can. Thanks, Playmobil!
