If you watched a lot of late-night cable TV maybe 10 years ago, you may have seen ads extolling the virtues of raising Alpacas. I found this baffling - why is someone paying money trying to convince me to take their alpacas? Sure they're cute, but those things are tall and they're probably taking over. Why else would you want to get rid of them? They're probably not delicious. Playmobil put them out in a small sack which apparently people want now. The animal bags from Playmobil didn't get the widest distribution in big USA toy stores, and this series seems to have been overlooked outside indie toy and hobby shops. That's where I got mine, because when you're out getting lunch the kind of thing you think is "hey, let's see if I can get a bag of toy alpacas."
They're
The deco is good for a Playmobil animal, but won't change your life. Off-white plastic figures are given black eyes and nothing else. To date there are no other colors of alpacas, and the sculpts are pretty good. The wool is plastic, but looks a little fluffy. The faces are cute while being mostly realistic, appearing closer to a real animal than the classic style of Playmobil animal - a toy based on what looked like a child's drawing of an animal. The adult alpaca moves at the legs and neck, while the baby only moves at the neck. They're both rather small, with the adult coming up to about the neck of an adult Playmobil Klicky, putting it almost eye to eye with a child.
The bags are a nifty contraption to sell toys, mostly because it makes the item look like less of a major purchase and more like something you buy, open, and buy again next week like chips or grated cheese or off-brand cereal. Also like a sack of chips, it's mostly air - the tiny bag has room for a dozen more alpacas, but only two tiny figures at the bottom. It certainly makes the figure set appear more impressive on the shelf than it actually is, but it's also fairly cheap. If you can still find one in the normal price range, it's worth it.
The adult alpaca was also sold in an Easter Egg set with some food, a keeper, and some tools - arguably a worthwhile set if you're so inclined. I love weird animals and Playmobil has been historically good about keeping animals in circulation through reuse and its bagged "add-ons" program for as far back as I can remember. Things may come and go, but usually you'll see them again. I wouldn't overpay for these, but they're certainly charming enough to add to a toy box if you're in to weird fuzzy things. And this is the internet, we live for weird fuzzy things.
