If you love Adventure People, Onell Design shows you their love with Piloden! This one is an interesting take on something that could have been a straight redeco. The original Adventure People Alpha Pilot (in grey) used the Alpha Star Pilot's body, but cast it in grey. Onell Design paid homage to this figure last year, but this new one has a different head - Pheyden's. They also did some snappy things with the paint that continue to make me think Onell Design can do literally anything at this point.
You might recognize the basic paint template from the Sarvostar [FOTD #1,882] body and one of the Optivos [FOTD #1,910] heads. What really sets it apart are a smattering of gold dots on the side. The pattern mimics that of the Alpha Star Pilot [FOTD #79], which also had shiny metallic gold dots albeit in a different pattern. The very same pattern and bluegrey plastic were previously deployed on Phanoid [FOTD #1,690] about a year ago. It's all a rich tapestry.
This is the part of the review where I whine about not being able to buy a t-shirt with the dot pattern on it.
The new figure's black hands and soles are nothing too fancy - but those gold eyes are amazing. They really shine from the black, shaodwy head of this figure. The silver forehead boxes look vaguely like a pattern on the Adventure Toy figure's helmet, while the chest boxes look a lot like the mirrored finish on that figure's chest. It's not quite as reflective, but it wouldn't surprise me if the Onell Design crew had a mirror painted on PVC before the end of the decade.
I've been trying to cut down on my toy purchases lately - seeing as we're closing in on 2,000 reviews you may have some assumptions as to why - but I bought in on this one blind, assuming it might be awesome. Indeed it is - I've got almost the entire "Adventure People" sub-collection, and it's been a fun experience. I'm writing this in early March so I don't know yet what the next big blind figure adventure will be, but if it's half as cool as these have been we're in for a treat.
