I assume I got a bad Elita-1. At least on mine, it's impossible to get her in car mode because some pieces don't have enough clearance to shift to the neat futuristic car mode. I got her online last August, and was going to wait until I could find another one to write a review but it took so long I kind of lost interest - I think I first saw her in the wild around January. Distribution hasn't been great lately.
The toy itself is perfectly fine on paper, with a couple of big blasters. We seem to be intergoing Elitamania right now, because we just got an Arcee retool of her (which I was quite happy with) a couple years back and this is a riff on that. The reds, pinks, and whites all look great and the head looks a little bit more like the old cartoon, with a boxier car mode and a bit more bulk on the robot. If the wheels could roll better, with enough clearance, and could shift into car mode without pins or other bits getting in the way, I'd say she's pretty good. If you never transform her, she's not bad. But also, Earthspark has Elita-1 toys, and a leaked 2-pack with Dion has a pre-Elita-1 Erial coming your way. You're not stuck with this one, you have options.
This figure is a decent representation of Elita-1, sort of, more or less. She looks a bit like the cartoon, and also not. I don't even know where to go with this one - she stands fine, the ankles more or less tilt, and she can hold her blasters. If you don't transform her, she's a decent action figure. The colors are nice, the sculpting is fine, and the reds mostly match.
Transformation is infuriating. It's probably just my sample, but I didn't like Minerva much more - it's the same thing where pieces don't quite have the clearances they need to swing where you want them. It's very fiddly and the action figure part does not want to be the car part.
The car looks interesting, but the wheels don't spin well and it doesn't fit together properly. It's a nice idea - I like the Elita-1 hat popping out of the top, even if it's fake - but it doesn't seem to actually form the car mode properly.
One of the things that really stinks about distribution issues these days is if you get a bad toy, you may not be able to replace it - and if there's a repaint that's only slightly better, you might throw up your hands and say "it's not even that good in the first place." And then stop opening toys and canceling pre-orders. Or maybe it's just me. I had a bad enough experience with this toy that it put me off being a Legacy completist, which is going to save me some money but I'll probably miss a few good toys in the process. Maybe you'll get a good one, but I'd say skip it and just get Minerva or nothing at all. We're getting so many Elita-1 toys lately, a better one has got to be around the corner.
