Manufactured in 2018 but not released until June 2019, this Outer Space MenWhite Star Zero Gravity ticks a box. With it, your collection of white plastic figures to customize is completed! Probably. That makes for a stellar collection of 21 white-as-white-can-be figures, the irony of which is not lost with this character.
If you bought Zero Gravity [FOTD #2,041], it's a lot like him - but white. If you bought Beta Phase White Star Jack Asteroid [FOTD #1,098], it's a lot like him except the head is new and there's no flag on the pole. It's not an exaggeration to say there's not much new here, but given that this entire line is an exercise to expand ideas from 50 years ago, you could say it's also very on-message.
Cast in white plastic, Zero Gravity has painted blue eyes and is otherwise undecorated. His backpack has a bit of blue in the clear blue covering, but all other color with this figure comes from its clear blue ABS plastic accessories. It gives him a stark, clean look that doesn't do him a heck of a lot of favors on a shelf with the other White Star releases. The 3 3/4-inch scale astronaut from the moon sadly has no flag to speak of, and serves nicely as your base human for customization efforts in the future. I'm not assuming they pumped out a ton of these, so naturally I won't be customizing mine.
The base figure is the same mold we got for Metamorpho way back in 2010, and it serves as the base for male-appearing humans in this line. He has 13 points of articulation, swappable bent/straight arms, a removable backpack, and an articulated visor on the 3-piece helmet. This is a nicely-crafted figure, albeit one you probably have in very similar colors if you've been collecting these for a while. The price has also gone up considerably - White Star Jack Asteroid was $11 in 2013. That's inflation in raw materials and Chinese labor costs for you.
This figure is arguably the line's second end point. (But don't worry, we still have about a dozen to review here.) In 2014 it seemed like things were over, and in 2016 we saw the license revert back to the IP owners and we got another 35 or more figures plus specials from Onell Design. Mel Birnkrant and Gary Schaeffer do have ideas for more figures, but will they ever make it out? I hope so! Until then, you've got a lot to catch if you've missed any.
