I like it. The Sofubi Pink Original Orbitron is a design I like, in a color I like, and Gary Schaeffer and Mel Birnkrant gave me a tour of the figure's ins and outs when I visited them in February of this year.
One thing that was pointed out to me that I had initially missed is that these are similar-but-not-identical to the smaller figures. There are minor deco and color differences between this 12 3/4-inch behemoth and the Four Horsemen Outer Space Men Infinity Edition Orbitron Action Figure [FOTD #640] from 2013. For starters, it's bigger and there are always batch changes between colors, but team OSM intentionally altered the deco in subtle ways so it isn't the same as the 1969 original or the smaller figures. Orbitron's skin has a metallic, almost glittery tint to it. Weapons are a bit more magenta on the bigger figure.
The big Colossus Rex' big change was that the vinyl figure is symmetrical - a digital change from the little guy. Orbitron just seems to be generally different. The head has a more detailed brain with more rivers and valleys, with a body that seems realigned. The 4-inch scale figure's torso wasn't completely in alignment. If the circle and star were aligned on the front of the little guy's torso, the spine would be out of alignment. This was fixed on the 12-inche figure. Of course, there were some issues too - the arms meet the shoulders in a weird way, and we lost some articulation.
The figure is jointed at the shoulders, hips, and ankles. While my glowing figure had loose joints and fell over quickly, so far this one seems to be a bit stiffer thanks to the paint. I'm keeping an eye on it, though.
If you can stand the slow-drip release (and Gary, if you're reading this, I can) I would strongly recommend picking up the Sofubi line if you missed the Glyos line. They cost more, but they're gorgeous and big and if you're old and your eyes are terrible, they're much easier to see. I'm going to need to clear some space so I can see these guys because they're generally pretty great if expensive, with boxes worth hanging on to. They just look nice.
