I already bought one version of this mold, but a painted colorway of Mega Bit Pheyden - a Standard Set - seemed to be an essential purchase. (I'm also interested in a green "bad graphics" one and/or glow-in-the-dark someday.) Pheyden in Pheyden colors is an important thing to have, and this blocky one is nothing if not charming. If you got the Mega Bit Pheyden Trophy Set [FOTD #1,531] the figures offer little new other than changes in color, but they're good changes in color. In addition to these figures, an unpainted blue duo was also put up for sale.

The 3-inch tall larger figure stands a bit over a normal Onell Design Pheyden toy, while the tiny 1-inch mini Bit Figs Pheyden is about the same size as a Mordle or other, tiny collectible figures. The larger figure has jointed shoulders which allow you to completely remove the arms and swap them for other Glyos-compatible figures. The smaller figure has a hole in his feet and you can stick a Glyos pin in there - so he can be a staff head, or a hand puppet.

Big Pheyden and small Pheyden have white eyes surrounded by grey - the opposite of the normal Onell figures - with grey arms and shoulders. Everything else is bare blue, which is a smidgen more vibrant than the standard Pheyden figures I have around here. Maybe it's just by virtue of freshness - but it really looks sharp. Pixel figures are very "in" this season, so it's great to see them being adapted for Glyos. Unlike other Pheyden figures, this one is more of a collectible than a toy - he can't sit, he won't go into vehicles. He will, however, look super sharp on a desk or a shelf.

The smaller figure is just a a fine collectible, but he's tiny. This makes him the perfect puppet for your other Glyos figures, or a toy for your toys as it were. He's wonderful and small, you'd be delighted to get something this tiny with crisp paint details out of a vending machine. So far, he's not showing up in vending machines - but you never know how this line will continue down the road. I doubt you'd see a lot of people chasing down Pheyden specifically, but as part of a bigger collection? I can dream. I doubt anyone buying it would know what the heck it is, but that makes it even more interesting. Since you (and I) would order this online, we know exactly what it is.

Each figure is, for lack of more appropriate terminology, the same resolution. The pixel build is the same, they just changed how the figure's size, construction, and the soles of his feet. (And arms.) (And... well, there's a little more too.) Big Pheyden has treads on his boots, which is such a lovely detail I can't believe they bothered to include it. Small Pheyden's dealing with a Glyos socket on his soles, so there's no real reason to sculpt in too much detail there.

The set debuted at $10, but was also marked $12 (marked down) which would still be a decent deal for it. The paint on both are good, and the designs aren't bad. Short of panel lines, I don't know what they could do to make these figures in these colorways interesting enough to buy an extra time. Culture Pirates is also in a position to crank these guys out in dozens of other colorways, basically replicating any of the many Onell Design looks as they see fit. This gives us all an idea of what may be on the horizon for this line if they keep going in that direction, but for the time being a Standard Pheyden makes the most sense. It looks good. I like it. I got my money's worth. It's a neat designer figure more than it is a fun toy, but that's the point. It's stylish. I hope to see them come up with other ways to make this cool as we see the mold trotted out over the next few years.
