"Movie year" toy lines seem to be getting shorter and this Airazor looks like it's going to be one of the last toys made for this particular "kid line." I'm pretty fond of the Beast Battle Masters, even though I don't much like the prices. $6 or $7 for an accessory is a lot, but at least they're a lot of fun and have a little paint on them. I'd recommend her if you find one.
Packaged in bird mode, it's like getting a Silverhawks avian companion. She has sculpted robo-feathers, a silver beak, painted blue eyes, and some metallic green highlights. There's not a ton going on here, and without paint you'd probably feel ripped off if she cost more than $3 or $4. With paint, it might be a stretch but she has articulated legs, posable wings, and a 5mm peg under her chin so she can perch on other figures' arms. For a figure of this size, there's not much more you can expect her to do. She gets the job done with an impressive amount of sculpted detail on all of the feathers that would probably make the strongest case yet for doing digital sculpting. Doing this by hand would probably be a crampiinducing nightmare, but doing it once and mirror-flipping it to get you both wings? That's reasonable.
Transforming the figure is pretty easy, but you might want to look at the instructions to get to the shieldy and blastery modes. The first mode they show is a shield with a blaster at the bottom - sort of a feathery riot shield. The green highlights really shine here, and you can pop blast effects in that 5mm hole. It's kind of amazing and a weird toy if you think about it - the kid line doesn't include any such blast effects, so the only buyers likely to get anything out of that particular design are collectors who have other toys from recent years. Thanks to the 5mm handle, pretty much any toy you've bought recently from Transformers is likely to be able to use this as an accessory. It holds together quite nicely.
The blaster mode involves rotating the wings and adjusting the position of the body - it's pretty easy, and you get a wide, winged blaster. If this line had any longevity in it, you'd probably get a number of recolors of this toy and love them all. As it is, it's a nifty accessory that looks sort of like a longbow if you squint just right. It certainly makes a better or at least more convincing weapon accessory than Arrowstripe, but for the price, it should. My other toys had no problems holding it.
It's a fun and satisfying toy if you have other robots to use it - by itself, it's pretty useless. Given that it costs about 1/4 of a regular Deluxe-class figure (or almost half of a Beast Alliance 2-pack) you may have a hard time saying that it's a good deal - and you'd be right. This is a toy that collectors will likely enjoy more than kids, although kids that require more accessories for their other, bigger toys should enjoy these. If they ever go on clearance I'll probably buy a couple of extras, but at retail price it just isn't worth building up an army to use as accessories for other figures. I'd strongly recommend buying one if you love "Targetmasters"-type toys.
