Since the U.S.S. Discovery NCC-1031 may be the first ship based on the design, I grabbed it. It's pretty solid - and it's bigger. The larger-scale vehicle doesn't fit in with the rest of the line quite as well, but hey - it costs more too. The paint job is pretty astonishing, although it can be hard to see the detail in certain lighting conditions.

Based loosely on a 1970s Enterprise concept, the Disco has a spinning wheel and a bridge that looks a little bit like an astromech droid. The brownish color has a ton of uniquely colored panels, so get in close and it looks like the ship was made of unique pieces fused together to form a giant space ship. There are a ton of painted lights and details here, plus clear red bits on the back. The stripes are a big departure from the usual ship designs, as are the elongated and probably quite snappable nacelles. Be careful, is what I'm saying.

As with the others, the display stand clamps on to the back giving it the ability to look like it's hovering in space without any unsightly holes in the actual ship. I had to check the directions to make sure I put it in the right place, gripping the vehicle's backside. Most Enterprises I have are one-color with unsightly battery compartments or weird buttons, so it's strange to get a debut toy of a ship that looks reasonably close to the CG model from the show.

I like this, but I think I'd have been happy with a smaller, cheaper version. This item sold out quickly so as of my writing this it commands a premium, I assume Eaglemoss will rerun it somehow (ISS deco, battle-damage) so you can get something like it in the near future. They did a decent job here and while the windows could be aligned better, it's still good enough that I'm happy I have it. Get it if you feel like it.
