Star Trek doesn't get a ton of respect. Wesley Crusher gets less respect. Galoob had plans to make him in the 1980s but after the first season, the line didn't really have toy legs at the time - Playmates would have more success a few years later, though. Playmates made a Cadet Wesley Crusher, which was kind of a weird, pale-skinned figure with eyes seemingly pointing in weird directions. But Super7 made this figure based on his season 1 sweater - thus fulfilling the prophecy - but he's still a little imperfect as a figure. Sculpting an adolescent is tough, but once again he's pretty pale and has no accessories.
...but if you've got a Wesley Crusher-shaped hole in your life or you're a The Ready Room viewer, you probably want/need this.

While I don't have any Galoob figures on hand, this figure is probably the most appealing to long-term collectors of that line. He doesn't have the knees, but he ticks a "lost figure" box and I know what it's like to have figures get close to production and not get made that eat at you for years. Wesley is also one of very few Super7 figures based on the first season along with Armus. If that's not dedication to weirdness, what is?
Young Wesley Crusher is sculpted with a Star Wars -flavored attention to detail. His right arm looks like it could grip some mystery accessory, while the left one looks as if it were modeled after 1979 Luke Skywalker. He stands, he sits, and on my sample the hips were partially fused - you could hear a "snap" when they finally moved, no doubt the paint drying in an unpleasant way. Be careful when you open him and move the joints, kids. Everything does move and on my sample, nothing snapped, cracked, or popped open. Functionally, it's what you expect.
The outfit seems more or less true to the show, with the command/support/sciences stripes on his shirt plus a toned-down neck that makes the figure look a little bit less goofy than the costume on the show. While I could make pale nerd jokes all day, Wil Wheaton wasn't that pale in the photos and his face had more color on the show - it's a bit of a downer that he is extraordinarily white. His mom only has a slight hint of additional color in her skin.
In terms of sculpting, the figure isn't as lively as the Universal Monsters figures, and isn't quite as stiff as the likes of the new Vincent Price. The arms have subtle bends in the elbows and teh wrinkles are a bit varied, but the legs are pretty blah. There's no life here, they're just straight up and down with wrinkles in the back. A little variation would be nice, but for all I know this is accurate to how the fabric hangs.
With no accessories, and at $15 - or $18, or $20 - he could use a little more in the package. Maybe Jim Shimoda's isolinear chips, or his model tractor beam would have been cool. If you don't have a built-in long-held need for this figure to fill a gap in a collection, I wouldn't recommend it for $15-$20. But if you look below, you can see they can be had on clearance - I got mine at a Phoenix-area FYE store in April of 2023. It was absolutely worth under $5, so I'd recommend picking it up if you see it on sale. Nearly any ReAction Figure is pretty good at 1990s toy prices.
