16bit.com's Notes |
The Special Edition 300th Figure has the distinction of having some of the worst graphics on a toy package that isn't a bootleg. The list on the back, as well as the four figures pictured, are all very pixellated. Adam got a look at the prototype packaging, and doesn't remember it looking quite like this. The side panel is also notable, as it looks like a chunk of the Empire Strikes Back coloring book was dropped in with a nice photo of Boba Fett being placed on top of it. This provides a stark contrast to the rest of the box, which is quite nice. The logos, the graphical bursts, and the insert all turned out beautiful.
The insert is nothing short of a work of art, as far as packaging deisgn goes. Original 3D rendered Cloud City skyscrapers, Cloud Cars, and the Slave 1 adorn the back of the box, and we're quite impressed.
The packaging has windows on the top flap, in the back, on the front, and on the sides. A class act for die-cut packaging.
This package, like the product, is symbolic of Hasbro's treatment of Star Wars. There's enough high-quality components to amaze even the most jaded collector, yet some aspects are so low-quality even the least observing fan could be left wondering why such a decision was made.
