Yo Monsta! Designer/sculptor/creative wizard/seemingly charming dude Acori Honzo of LBO had what may be one of the biggest all-new surprise introductions at the show. Yo Monsta is a property that is starting out as a series of action figures. 3 3/4-inch action figures. Retro-style figures. It's a mix of classic cartoons, classic monsters, and 1980s hip-hop. People asking me "are you having a good show?" would generally be dragged over to the Disburst booth, where the new line occupied a corner. You can see some of the art and character names on their web page, and assuming costs don't go up too much? It's pretty reasonable.

Mr. Honzo shared the story for the characters, his hopes for toys and a vehicle, and other tidbits about the line. He sculpted and designed them, and he's done a lot of other stuff too. Big Bone, Funny Bone, and Dwight make up the Dead Meats (they're antagonists.) Chill Gill, Fresh Wrap, and Fur-Real Furreal are fantastic monsters with really cool accessories. Draculetta seems to be the heart of the line. There are concepts for cars, a ghostly ghoul group, and a riff on another legendary cosmic being as well as boom box-derived creatures. Everything looks pretty fantastic, it's kind of a shame I couldn't get these when I was a little kid.
I really hope these get big distribution - if you're the kind of person looking for more retro figures, but something new, this might be the perfect fit. I'm looking forward to them.
