Four Horsemen Outer Space Men Galactic Holiday Cyclops Action FigureI dig Cyclops even if red doesn't shoot all that well. We've had plenty of red clear Outer Space Men (Inferno, Astro-Nautilus, Mystron, Commander Comet) so why not do one more? The big beast looks great in red, in person at least. Red can be tricky to shoot right, but if you're not an expert in photography they're all a little tricky. I am not an expert.

He's really big, and has all of the perks and shortcomings of his clear brothers. As a heavier figure, the Glyos joints strain slightly under the weight and may sag if the figure is not balanced properly. The plastic doesn't warp, but the figure will slowly tip forward and, eventually, nosedive off a shelf if left alone and unbalanced for a few days. Aside from that, it's a really solid figure: it feels like you could kill a rat with this thing, and he's fairly well jointed as Glyos figures go. With roughly 14 joints of merit, the figure can assume a few poses beyond what you see in the pictures. Each joint only swivels, so there's no bending knees or elbows here and it tends to be a little more noticeable than on the smaller guys. The Horsemen opted out of including bent arms here as well, so instead you have the option of closed fists to hold his extra eyes (the ray guns) or open fists which resemble the original prototype's hands.

Four Horsemen Outer Space Men Galactic Holiday Cyclops Action Figure

Four Horsemen Outer Space Men Galactic Holiday Cyclops Action FigureWhile I suspect if you're reading this, you've seen (or own) this mold. If not, its worth noting the two-piece armor covers the body nicely and hides a skull-like face underneath that was modified ever-so-slightly to recall Pheyden from Onell Design's Glyos range. The face was on the original toy, but tweaked just a bit for the 2012 and 2013 Cyclops figures.

Along with Astro-Nautilus, an improperly balanced Cyclops can take out an entire display shelf. While Xodiac, Inferno, and the rest tend to prop themselves up nicely, I've had to reshape my displays to ensure Cyclops is leaning, just to be safe. I don't want to go in to check on them and see a cracked helmet. I should also note, the Galactic Holiday 2013 wave came with unassembled packaging - so you get a flat, unused box which can be seen below.

Since the painted version of Cyclops is nothing short of gorgeous, a single-color figure with a painted green eye simply can't compare. It's a great sculpt, but a ton of paint generally will always be less impressive than no paint. I like the red, and in my own stash I've divided up my "painted" Outer Space Men from the clear ones now that there's too many to fit on a single shelf. If you like these guys on their own merits as clear, bright figural collectibles, I'd say it's worth a look. But in another, more honest way, just get the painted ones. And if you need more to customize or love the idea of having a bunch of guys in strange colors, this isn't a bad figure to have. Eventually. After the painted one.
