Based on an overseas exclusive, this Megator came out surprisingly early in the new line's run. It's about 12-inches tall, which puts it below the original 1980s toy which you couldn't afford anyway. It was $40 (similarly sized toys are $44 or so lately) which means that, at the time, it costs double a regular figure. I don't know that it's as good as two figures, but it's certainly novel and the "here's a rare 1980s toy remade for less" is the real reason why I was pretty jazzed to get one of these. A replica of a legendary toy is still a legendary toy... replica.
The body shares parts with Tytus and last year's Procrustus, but Megator and Tytus are basically the 1.0 of the larger body. The figure sports about 12 points of articulation, lacking ankles and swivel biceps. I think I'm supposed to tell you that this is an outrage but I didn't really notice they were missing, as the figure is basically a "pop it out of the box and pose" figure over an "action" figure. It stands nicely, and has no problem holding the ball-and-chain in his right hand. The cool thing is the chain is actually metal.
The head is nicely done, and there's an alternate "zombie" head as a bonus. At the time it was meant to be a mystery accessory, which was sort of confusing to me as I don't get surprises in toys I've bought. Of course, this entire line is really one big surprise when you get down to it. Either head is exquisitely painted with great deco on the eyes and teeth, plus the zombie head has rooted hair if you're in to such things. The default head has black plastic hair, which hangs rather well.
The range of movement is good, it isn't exactly amazing but it doesn't need to be. I need this guy to stand, sit, and hold his weapon. He does an admirable job, as there is no "action feature" or anything beyond posing him and popping off his head to slap on the alternate noggin.
As of late last year, this one was selling for about $30 before shipping. That's actually about perfect for this toy, if not a little cheap. His deco is pretty great, with light to dark green skin and nifty faux-bronze armor with a skull on it. Quality stuff. Since I have no real emotional connection to the figure (it showed up in the mail) it's just a neat, big guy who hangs around with my other bad guys in the basement. I bet I'd like it more if it had an arm-smashing action or something, but it is a nifty, fantastical creature to keep around the toy box.
