Four Horsemen Outer Space Men Beta Phase Terra Firma Action FigureOne of the first things I heard about the New York Comic Con release of Terra Firma was that her flag wasn't as awful as the San Diego Comic-Con release. The first thing I noticed was that the US flag has been trimmed of excess white, but the flag still seems to have the same adhesive problems which plagued the July version. On the bright side, everything else about the figure is pretty good.

Terra Firma sports the same modular design with the Glyos system, meaning you can pop her apart at each joint and swap parts with other figures. To do this in this set is a bit more of an empty feature, but you can swap most pieces between hundreds of other Glyos-compatible figures from over the past six or so years. The all-white figure has two small blue dots for eyes which, surprisingly, make her look quite alien. It's a little unsettling, and I found this surprising as the previous release didn't feel quite so strange... and she was orange.

Four Horsemen Outer Space Men Beta Phase Terra Firma Action FigureThe three-piece helmet still has that swell flip-up visor, and the blue accessories aren't all that different from the last round. There are some more visible mold marks on the helmet, though, which you can see on the close-up. For this reason, it's not quite as good as the last one. The line has gotten increasingly predictable and samey, with this set probably deserving the trophy for least likely to surprise anyone. The figure's white plastic is clean throughout, and would be a great basis for custom figures. On one hand, I'm glad the Four Horsemen continued the set that started at San Diego this year, but on another hand I could just as soon never seen this made. I know I've said this before, but I would have loved to see variant versions of Terra Firma with different skin colors and flags representing various parts of the world. Could there be a Russian Terra? Chinese, maybe? Indian? It'd have been pretty cool to see the other powers of Earth represented with this mold, even if it was just a flag change.

Four Horsemen Outer Space Men Beta Phase Terra Firma Action FigureWhile the orange version of Terra was quite expensive at $16, this one is a mere $11. And that was the original price when she was sold individually - why the change? I have no idea. I think there must be some funding issues that are being dealt with through these figures, as a wave here or there occasionally costs more than one might expect. Considering the price this is clearly the version to get of the two... but the painted one is really where it's at.

The figure succeeds in being neat, giving you a chance to really see clearly what the Four Horsemen have sculpted for you. Clear plastic absorbs a bit of the detail, so a plain white figure shows you that the face is quite nice and that the shapes are quite shapely. I am expecting one more single-color version of Terra before the first painted version comes out, and I sincerely hope the Four Horsemen will create a few painted variants of her for the collectors. Horsemen, Mel, Gary - if you're reading - how's about giving a fan site a USSR-deco exclusive? You know you want to...
