I stumbled on an Aisle Driver while going out to buy an Amiibo reader - who knew? This nifty "car" is one of very few Hot Wheels cars to include a figure at the $1.00 price point. The blue slug figure grips the rails of this car, and while there are LEGO/Mega Bloks studs in the cart base the figure includes no holes for said studs. It looks like a really fun toy in the box, but by the time of its release the basic classic Mega Bloks mini figures are no longer being produced and this was sized to deliberately lock out LEGO figures.
The blue cart looks like a blue cart - unlike other shopping cart cars like the classic Express Lane, this one has no real car elements beyond the wheels. There's no engine, or fancy spoiler, or doors. It's a fairly weighty piece of metal with a plastic base and plastic wheels. It rolls nicely, and the companion figure grips it with his life. As a stand-alone thing, this is a great fun set. If you were hoping for a good LEGO toy, do not buy this.
The figure looks a lot like the Mega Bloks Hot Wheels figures from a few years ago, minus any articulation. Given the price, this is acceptable. It's a little rubbery, a little rough in spots, and the claw hands grip the bars quite nicely. The feet have a small platform on which to rest, so you can send it through loops or launchers without the figure flying off. This is good. It's not the world's most amazing toy figure, but it can stand on its own and is functionally perfect. This is all I ask for.
The cart is neat - you'll note that some of the "holes" in the cart are sculpted indentations while others are merely decorations. It reads "Aisle Driver HW Ride-Ons" on the side, in a logo that looks a lot like it could be a grocery or drug store chain. (Only none of those would have a cart this large.) There are plenty of places on which to mount figures, but I found my TMNT Mega Bloks Leonardo wasn't able to make use of the pegs inside the cart, but the bars work perfectly well. I have to assume those with lots of older figures will get more out of this, because it's scaled right for the new "Mega Construx" figures but it just doesn't fit as well them as the Fig Rig did with LEGO.
It's a buck - a figure and a car for a dollar is a steal. The figure with the car work together well, but you don't want to use this with other figures or at least, not the ones I have handy. I'd say it's a great cheap toy for kids wanting a lot of stuff - a figure and a vehicle for a dollar is practically unheard of. If your kids have a healthy collection of brick-related toys, this is even better. But if you're an adult collector wanting only authentic car replicas, you didn't make it this far, so whatever.
