One of the gold standards of toys is the Hot Wheels car. For fifty years, Mattel has been selling kids and fans cheap cars with an increasing slate of licensed vehicles each and every year. This Screen Time Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Party Wagon is the second edition - the first one last year had different wheens and a newer TMNT logo on the front face of the car. This version has the arced "Turtles" as seen on the cardback - the last model had the rectangular "Turtles" from newer lines.
I never had a TMNT Party Wagon toy as a kid, but this was a buck. I was out looking for the Landspeeder or Land Shark and found neither - but this? This is good. They got me.
Mostly plastic except for the base, the vehicle is close enough to last year's cheap model that I'm not inclined to track down the variant with the arguably superior wheels. Silver ones are fine. The lightly decorated vehicle lacks things like the painted door on the actual vehicle from the TV show, but you get silver cannons, a red antenna, blue windows, painted headlights, the toothy bumper, and of course the famous spare tire cover. It also rolls nicely. I love the turtle shell pattern on the roof, the bright but not-too-bright yellow plastic, it's a toy. It almost makes me wish I did more with Hot Wheels.
Despite the increasing cost of everything, Hot Wheels cars are still pretty good and still pretty cheap. While the spare tire cover on mine was smudged, it's otherwise pretty sharp and nicely done, and mostly molded in color. There are a lot of good cars this hear, including the Zombot in Rock 'em Sock 'em colors - so take a gander at the Hot Wheels aisle if you usually skip it.
