I'm a big fan of video games, but can get overwhelmed - I skipped Mattel's excellent Hot Wheels toys from Mario Kart until I saw this $1 Standard Kart at the store. It's a buck! The ones with drivers cost about $4-$5 - and are great, but there are so many and I'm a completist on a lot of things. So I just got this one, for a dollar, and it's great.
Based on the standard Kart in Mario colors, this one has unusually large wheels and rolls incredibly smoothly. I was surprised how it glided across my mouse pad with far less resistance than my other cars. There's nothing scraping across them and I assume if my home had wood floors instead of tiles, it would go incredibly far out of one of my launchers before spinning out.
The bottom of the kart is painted glossy blue, while the top is white plastic with red paint. The paint masks are clean without a lot of slop on the sides, but the yellow caps on the exhaust pipes on mine were chipped before I opened it. I don't like that. But I like the yellow paint on the giant wheels, and it really does look like something that bounced off my TV screen.
Most Hot Wheels cars are all pretty much the same - maybe there's a gimmick, but they all roll well and look good. I'm thrilled to get a $1 Mario Kart, and I'm amazed how it just glides across any surface I try. If I had a set-up for racing I would be dying to try this on it. I highly recommend getting this - or maybe an inevitable repaint in another character color - if one shows up on your shopping trip. It's a dollar and it's awesome... and I hope we can get it in Link colors. More, please.
