Cappy Space Legion Lead Crayboth Action FigureA new troop! The Legion Lead Crayboth could have been a D-Con 2020 debut in an alternate timeline where COVID-19 didn't wipe out nearly every fan gathering in the USA from March onward. Last year, we got the nifty R-Toolio and C-Ps&Qs. This year, it would've been the Legion and legion Lead, both excellent figures nodding to the classic Star Wars Stormtooper.

The little guys are the same Crayboth tooling you've seen from Onell Design for years, but now they're decorated like soldiers from a completely different galaxy far, far away. The white plastic of the Legion lead has an orange shoulder that's a solid nod to the custom Sandtroopers of the 1990s - fans often added a shoulder pad to the regular old Kenner Stormtrooper figures. Rebels and more recent Star Wars programs would follow suit, adding a shoulder pad without the dirt and survival gear on plain white troopers. It works here quite nicely.

Since the 4-jointed figure is pretty much the same as it's ever been, deco is what makes it interesting here. The hands and fingers are black, as are the toes, hips, biceps, and "eyebrows" or lenses. There's also silver paint on the eyes, directly under the aforementioned reverse-orca spots, plus a unique Glyos symbol on the left wrist just over the claw. What really sells it, though, are the blue stripes from the Stormtrooper helmet replicated on the figure's head. In this case, there are five parallel stripes painted on the Crayboth, whereas a Stormtrooper has considerably more. It drives home the point quite nicely.

Direct references to Star Wars aren't uncommon in Glyos, but they don't do nearly as many as I would have guessed. (Which is to say, every third wave.) Onell Design's Cantina alien nods were great, The Godbeast did a Boba Fett Kabuto Mushi, there's a Vlix-themed Pheyden, and a couple of other odds and ends over the last decade and change. If you aren't overhwlemed with Crayboth figures as of yet, I'd suggest getting this one - it's a clever redeco and doesn't take up a ton of room, either.
