When you have a superhero movie, since Batman it's been necessary to have companies find a way to sell a lot of Batman because Bob the Goon and the Joker only sell so well. Hasbro continues the proud tradition of variant costumes with Deep Dive Armor Iron Man, bulky undersea suit of armor that, in theory, lets Tony Stark get around Davy Jones' locker.
Sharing no parts with existing figures, this release has a fair amount of articulation, but nothing in the wrists-- because really, who needs hands underwater? I'm also not seeing any obvious SCUBA tanks or swim fins, but there's a big hole in his back which looks like something should be plugged into it. One leg on mine seems to have been set low, which you can see in the images below-- the left leg seems like it may have been assembled improperly, but perhaps they're all like this.
This figure really doesn't feel very "underwater" except for the colors. There's a very nice metallic blue with some yellow coming from the "lights" on his forearms and chest, plus there's a little heft and insulation, but aside from that it's just a weird spin on the existing movie designs. His knees are double-jointed, but depending on how you pose him you may see some very large gaps.
I picked this figure up because it was on sale and I thought it would be cool-- I don't like it nearly as much as other figures in the line. A repaint of this figure as "Subterranean Armor" should be just about in your g.shtml, and I assume it will be about as exciting as this one. Although in all honesty, the sculpt does look a little more mole-like than it does fish-like. I don't know why I'm complaining so much, this is clearly meant to be a kid-oriented figure but unlike Stealth Ninja Spider-Man it doesn't seem to be as fun or as close to what the name on the box wants it to be. Are swim fins too much to ask?
